Flying under the radar?
Now that the weekend's finished, I can't fail to notice that Freo's win over GWS garners very little attention from the free-to-air programmes (I don’t have access to Fox). Hardly a word mentioned on Footy Classified, a couple of minutes on Ross Lyon on Talking Footy and that’s about it. As far as I'm concerned, from what I saw on the broadcast, which, BTW, was shocking - how many wide angle behind-the-goal views of the game were there? It's like they had fewer cameras than normal covering the game in Canberra - Freo played a strong brand of footy compared to the premiership contenders GWS. As Mundy300 says, it's all about consistency and I'm going to be looking to see if there's any let-up in next week's game. If we play well, and manage to beat the Bulldogs with effort, we should rightly feel confident.
Anytime, anywhere? Not for the Weagles. Apparently training at Optus was a prime excuse for their loss the other night. In fact, Wayne Carey brought Freo into the conversation when he said that Ross Lyon mentioned the hardness of the oval as well (in the context of Simpson carrying on about the ground). Simpson actually had the look of panic about him, given that Port (and Freo) showed the rest of the comp how to beat the Weagles and their backline focus on marking and kicking the ball out of their defensive 50.
