The way the game has changed to the 666 rule, I think it favors more agile running rucks like lobb ,Gawn or Grundy, with that being said, do you think we could trade or should consider a trade of Sean Darcy for Tim English ?

The way I see it is Darcy is the better ruck at the moment but I think English will be better in the next few years, I would love to see a ruck combo of Lobb and English in the future, this would make us an even faster team in the future.

Thoughts ?

Darcy has a footy brain, and I reckon, a bit of mongrel in him. We need that more than Lobb or Englishes mobility. Once the players sort out the new rule, things will be back to normal. (Just keep the runners off the ground so the coaches don't stick their bib in.)

100% agree with you on Darcy, RM. We need to play him. I don't want him becoming disgruntled and start searching for opportunities elsewhere. He's a work in progress, but he's already handy. He will be very good.

Personally I would trade Darcy for English at the end of the year, the up side of English is huge and if we don't get it done this year we may have missed our opportunity.

I think Darcy is a great young bull of a ruck, he gets a lot of hit outs but how many to our advantage ? he lacks speed around the ground whereas English was a pretty good mid before he had a massive growth spurt, he's just starting to grow into his body, I see English as a future Brodie Grundy

I would trade for the WA kid and the no go home factor, It's a win win trade.

I can see him being an enforcer over the duration of his career, and that will help our young players, help gain respect from opponents, umpires and the general public and give us something we haven't had since the days of Cook & Kickett.

Slammen, get an attacking game plan in place and his ruck knocks will be very effective.

Slammo, I too rate English as a champion in the making. I really like Hodor but I would swap him for English in a blink of the eye.

I hear what your saying guys and I don't like it. I think Darcy is the required long term replacement for Sandi and his talent for body use, efficiency of taps and then ability to win clearances using his own bulk in a similar manner to Mumford make him a rare commodity. English is still getting monstered at ruck contests and is still a long way from being a viable option. But I feel this discussion may all be irrelevant at trade time this year when Hodor gets swapped to Geelong in exchange for Tim Kelly. Geelong have already put out enquiries on his availability and he is Geelong Falcons product.
I may not like it but I think it's a definite possibility.

I know it's early season but I think the 666 rule has quickened the game further. Look at how slow we were with Darcy in and 3 tall forwards. Wasn't keen on getting Lobb but think he may be more valuable then Hogan in a team sense.

Think its curtains for the lumbering ruck dinosaurs, and not looking good for the return of Sandipants.

I would have loved to see Sandilands partnering with Lobb, sadly this will never happen. Sandilands was far from a lumbering ruckman. I read an article recently in which Gawn listed 5 or 10 of his favourite players. In this article he listed Sandilands, and described the day he was sent out to run Sandi off his feet instead he was run off his.
I don’t think Darcy has this capacity at the moment and needs to build his endurance and pace.

We smashed GWS in the last quarter when we kept winning centre clearances and our forwards then won the ball (and kicked the goals) without our opposition being able to put players behind the ball thanks to new rule.

Hodor’s clearance stats for a big man are actually pretty good.

Win the ball out of the middle, kick it to Tabs, Hogan, McCarthy, Cox, Lobb or whoever we have down there.

If Lobb plays fwd means he can ruck inside 50 and Hodor sits a kick behind the play. Just don’t think Lobb is a 23+ game per year ruckman.

My only disclaimer being Hodor definitely has trade currency and if we could get what we needed for him maybe they take it.

If we do trade Hodor, I hope we're going to get some decent back up for Lobb, not just Jones or Meek.

DBTS, that is a strange comment, because when teams used to line up in a conventional format back in the days of the dinosaur, the big lumbering ruckman was what we saw being used. It was the change to "everyone to the city end quickly, oops they got the footy, everyone to the Subi end" style of play that forced the need for more mobile ruckmen.
