Definitely agree Matt re letting them flick it around so much. It is very annoying and seems to be Lyonistic in its execution. But according to the talking heads Lyon had wanted us to not let them take mark after mark.
So why does it happen? Are we just too knackered to prevent it? I reckon Lyon is just too conservative and won't budge with certain theories despite publicly declaring he wants a more direct, more attacking approach.

Despite the game plan, whatever we all think that is, we had opportunities to score more. Can never be sure that equates to victory, but we created chances to put scoreboard pressure on...despite The Plan. That, gives me some hope.

If players had executed skills we should have always been within two goals.
One thing that frustrated me last night was poor choices about when to go quick. A number of times we had taken a mark or recurved a free to give off a quick handball for that player to be under pressure without options in front of him. The eagles particularly in the first half were much better at identifying when they had the numbers and go fast or were outnumbered and hold it up.

I don’t see our game plan as that different from other sides game plan apart from Eagles and Hawks. I heard an interview with Lachie Neale when he said he walked into Brisbane expecting to have to learn a whole new plan. He said that there’s hardly any difference between Lyon’s and Fagans. Our most organised area at moment is defence because Hamling Ryan Pearce and Wilson have all played a few games together. Our midfield changes all the time due to injury and guys like Conca Lobb and Colyer being new. The forward line was almost completely new. It will all take time to gel but we’re heading in the right direction.

Freo typically play an ugly game of footy that is tough to watch. Nothing changed. Plenty of dockery dockers doing dockery things. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is the dockers way, much like missing set shots from 30 out directly in front, hand balling into a teammates head or giving up a goal with seconds to go. No Stockholm syndrome here, a very average game.

I would have thought that when you are getting paid a minimum of 450k + and probably on average 750k a year with 8 to 12 weeks annual leave you shouldn't have to be taught skills. It's supposed to be a prerequisite to why you were employed in the first place. Us members are the biggest contributors to salaries for players, coaches and management and are getting very little return on our investment. Especially when we actually have to go and watch our money go down the drain.

The general idea is that you repeatedly practice the skills, in scenarios you are likely to face in a game, so that when you're Michael Walters and you run into the fifty, with no support and 3 opposition players closing in you, the training kicks in and you know exactly what to do.
