Disorganised rabble? Such breathlessly hyperbole.

Our backline held West Coast well, despite Hamling going down. I'd say we were pretty well organised there, although I'd like see us work to free up Wilson a bit more. What's going on there?

Our midfield was always going to be a bit light on, and we couldn't afford to lose players there. We were without Hodor and Fyfe, and if you take the long view Blakely. as well. If you have those guys on the ball then you don't have guys like Colyer overrunning it, or their ruckmen strolling from the centre square. But we still fought on really well.

Our forward line needs some time together, but I thought both Tabs and Lobb showed they can be good targets up the ground, and Tabs looked dangerous often in the 50. You can see Hogan building (and pointing), and Walters and CamMac can both bob up when needed. We're just one more short forward short at this stage, and I have no idea who can make that spot their own at this stage. Schultz was never going to kick that goal from 35m, and that's a problem.

But if you can't see signs of things turning then I think you are actually trying not to see it. I honestly thought (and posted) earlier in the week that if Fyfe played we would take it right up to West Coast. People thought (and posted) that it was a crazy notion, yet without him had we been just a touch more composed we would have rolled them.

We'll get rolled next week by GWS, but I think we'll win most of our home games this season.

With Fyfe back son son goes back to the forward line, with Blakely returning in a few weeks, then any one of Schultz, conca and colyer get dropped. Reality is you bring in Darcy, Fyfe, s hill, Logue and Blakely you drop Duman, Schulz, colyer Hughes and conca. That the icing on the cake that gets the team really moving forward.

It was a full blooded contest. We actually made them panic on a few occasions. Seeing our young guys go in so hard was great. There were some good skills under pressure. Quick handballs, shepherding, defensive composure..all very pleasing. No one is saying there wasn't errors and fumbles but what a contest!
If we want pretty football, lots of goals, everything clean and slick, we are wanting something that is not realistic.

Most on here were hoping for a 10+ goal shellacking so they could lay into the coach. In the end it was 13 points and if we’d kicked straight we’d have won. Nevertheless you still lay into the coach.

The coach had a win, the team couldn’t quite get it done.

Next time.

The coach could help by making things easier for them.

There was a will to give it a red-hot go, and yes we managed to drag their skills down to our level in the last quarter, opening the door to an unlikely win. SOme thoughts:
A few mistakes but our mature ins will get better as they learn their teammates' game
There are good signs with a competitive forward line, when it plays in the forward line: Walters on the burst with no-one to kick to except 3 West Coast defenders is old-school RoLy; got to have a structure that gives you a chance to take all your opportunities

Taberner, missed shots on goal because he was stuffed from the end to end running before he got the footy within range. Midfielders are supposed to do the running in the midfield.

Hogan, looked good when he led from deep in the 50 and while he did not get it often, given some consistency in playing him there, players will have the option of bombing it to the space he is running into, if they are confident he will be actually inside the 50 running to that space rather than within 20 meters of them and running into the 50. (look at how good sides get the ball into the 50 under pressure).

Cammac should be doing the running up the ground, he is a natural fit for that.

Most of our skill errors come off the back of intensive end to end running and you don't see finals sides requiring their entire team to do that week in week out, for an entire game. The few times we actually looked good yesterday were when we had players leading at Hill & co from inside 50. The way we played for most of the game will never win finals and that is why Lyon must go. Allowing a team to kick the ball to each other for 7 or 8 uncontested possessions in the backline on numerous occasions is not hard contested footy. The pressure is provided when you force the opposition to fight for the footy right from the defensive 10 yard square.

Roger, If you think I didn't bag they've team for performances like that when other blokes were coaching then you weren't paying attention.

Maybe I just think we're a lot better than 1 goal in half a game of football. You obviously don't.

After quarter time there was no way the Eagles were controlling the game. They were rattled and struggling to hang in there. Conca’s mistake just before three quarter time when we had the momentum was a killer although the ball wouldn’t have got down there if the dead cert holding the ball on Gaff had been paid. Hill hitting the post was also a killer. The skills were bad but from half time on the Eagles were as well. Josh Kennedy after the game said the ground and ball were both very slippery and it was like playing in the rain. Adam Simpson before the game said we were getting back to playing like 2015. I thought he was just trying to pump his own team up but I’m starting to believe it. We sure weren’t pretty in 2015 either

I think it's a dream that if we get back Fyfe, Blakely, Hill, etc we will be all guns blazing. The reason being that Hill for a start is weeks away plus the fact with our medical team I don't hold a lot of hope when new injuries occur.
Injuries will keep happening, eg Hamling, so we're never going to be at absolute full strength

I get it, there are supporters who are half full and others like me are half empty.
But facts are facts, 25 years and no premiership and our competitors down the road win one every 8 years as well as countless finals.

We just get it wrong and while I hope like hell we get better, our coach won’t get us there.
Fact is he never has, and he has been doing it for a while.

There were passages of play that were ghastly.

Coyler would over run the ball and then Conca would over run it at which time Coyler again having a second effort at over running it. They've also got to draw players better with their hands.

That's crap, Morgan. They did what they needed to to win.

We were a terrible football team who tried hard, had some talented players but ultimately are not prepared well enough.

We are a disorganised rabble.
Yep. I take some solace in the fact that our horrible skills were contagious. However it was an awful game of football that we should have won. When the commentators are saying that we're still in the match, mathematically they're right, however we can't score quickly. It's the same garbage week in and week out. Bomb it long and pray that Walters is not too far up the ground.
On a side note, tabs is playing well, be a pity if he could focus on some kicking at training....
