The slowest Freo player I ever saw was Leigh Brown. Won a premiership with Collingwood.

Leigh is more the D8 with the big C15 Diesel motor. Not fast, but don't get in his way.

Anyone who watched this game on TV saw how ineffective Scott Jones is
Yes is played out of position as not a forward but the guy cannot take a overhead mark in a pack
The guy is not AFL standard and needs to be cut
Bring back Jack Hannath or Starnadica, much better players
Ps/ also worried about Meek as he is also a poor mark but at least he is young and can improve

That doesn't make him too diffetent from Sandy, or a Zac Clarke, or any of the other ruckman we've had over the last 25 years does it??.

I'm struggling to think of any of them who have been good at the pack mark - or overhead - situation?
Spiider, Symonds, Warnock, Bandy - even Clinton Wolf - wouldnt have said that was their greatest asset.

Maybe Jeff White would get a look in? ....a-ha ! - Justin Longmuir would be our best till now wouldn't he?

But - as decent as Longy was - after 4 games, its pretty clear to me that Rory is by far the best marking ruckman we have ever had...especially in that contested, pack marking situation.

I'm just not certain his best spot is the ruck....

JLo was and is a better mark than Lobb. He knew exactly where to go and where to position himself behind play to set up for the intercept mark and no one was able to compete with him up forward if he hit a lead or had a run into a pack.

In terms of stats, JLo destroys Lobb in almost all of them despite having retired at the same age as Lobb and battled through knee injuries for much of his life as a mature footballer. More disposals, more marks, more goals, he was a better player.

I still wonder what could have been if injuries hadn't destroyed us in 2006 and JLo is chief among them. He battled his knee through 3 finals where he struggled to get around and have an influence. He only picked up 5 marks in those 3 games compared to averaging 5.5 per game the rest of the season and just couldn't get himself involved. A premiership was in the making if he was fully fit.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I agree JLo was good and played well. Simmonds was pretty handy too.

For mine though the best ruckman we had (apart from Sandi) was a young guy called Clem Michael, unfortunately a knee problem saw him play only a few games but legend has it we won every game he played in. He was quick smart and tough just like his old man but was cruelled by that darn knee.

Agree Biz, he would fit into todays style of footy perfectly, and be an even more dangerous weapon. One thing he did when playing forward was lead hard then clear a hole for a teammate to lead into if the ball didn't come his way.

100% agree with previous posters in that Clem Michael could have been one of the best players we ever had
not managed very well with his knee injury
Struggling to make a case for Jones and Meek as even WAFL standard, thanks Brad Lloyd for another inspired selection
