Has anyone else felt a little embarrassed to be a West Aussie by the carry on this week?

Quite recently I was saying I feel our city is really doing great of recent times, Yagan Square, Fringe, Elizabeth Quay and the stadium. Getting to be the city we know we can be.

But all this was a step backwards. Came off as churlish and small minded. That's the equivalent of Vics saying no way to Commetti commentating Anzac Day.

And what's he done to us anyway?

It's because the newspaper is run by a pun obsessed child who has lived in Sydney for so long he thinks Eddie is still a topic of conversation in WA.

No one is going to watch your stupid tv station full of ads if they have another option. Eddie, Basil, bloody mummified Kerry Stokes pretending to like sick children...it's all the same but one doesn't have as many ads for Bunnings.

Hopefully Eddie wont have to use his only real commentating skill - talking up the last quarters of lopsided matches. Every time I hear the current editor of the West on the radio, I wonder if he still needs to use Clearasil in the mornings.

Most good commentators go un-noticed. As soon as the commentator becomes the star attraction you have a problem. It then becomes worse if the commentator takes themselves too seriously when they aren’t actually that good (think Basil Z). Eddie isn’t the worst going around but he isn’t leading the pack either. That said, I can’t listen to him calling a Collingwood game (I’m not even sure he calls them anymore?) as it’s too distracting knowing his vested interested.

Shane/Hypen - yeh I get your points. To be clear, I wasn’t agreeing with the parochial crap that I’ve seen in the West this week.
I used to dislike Eddie more in the past but it wasn’t a ‘WA vs the rest’ kind of dislike as promoted by the Worst. It was more of a reaction to his over-exposure a few years ago and an ‘everyone vs Collingwood’ kind of dislike. As per my post, Eddie’s not the worst commentator out there and I’ve got no problem with him calling Freo vs WCE. While I think there are better callers of the game, I’d rather hear him than Baz or Dermott.

When I heard about the Collingwood crowd booing Guffy last week I think Eddy might nearly have the same hatred for Wet Toast after the Grand Final as we do .

That dislike might come out in his commentary , that could be good maybe ?

I’ve always thought Eddie was a better presenter than he is a caller. He genuinely loves footy and his club, and seems to try his best to be impartial, but I’m not a huge fan of his commentary style.

I can’t say him calling bothers be in any way. I’d prefer someone agnostic about Freo than the usual Eagles sycophants we get.

To me he’s a bit like Ray Chamberlain umpiring. You’d prefer not to have him for a normal game, but for a Derby he’s probably the closest thing we’ll get to impartiality.
