TOPIC: Fyfe’s stretcher

I'll admit, I just assumed that having assessed him on the ground, and with the proximity to the bench, the club Doctor considered that helping Nat to the bench was the safest and quickest way to proceed. I think the 20 minute stretcher thing is a red herring. If a player has been knocked out – as Nat had – then don’t they need to go into the concussion protocol anyway? That requires them to sit for 10 minutes, then have a 5 minute concussion test which they need to pass to come back on. So, at best, avoiding the stretcher would have saved a couple of minutes.

I didn’t consider that a Doctor would compromise his professional autonomy and clinical independence because he was worried Ross ‘let the cobblers do the cobbling’ Lyon would yell at him for risking that couple of minutes, but I guess I don’t assume the worst about absolutely everyone involved with the club (although full disclosure, I do tend to assume the worst about Rosich).

I think it is well documented that the AFL use SCAT5 as their standard protocol for head injured players. The associated documentation is clear that "Assessment for a spinal cord injury is a critical part of the onfield assessment".
The whole assessment and initial management of Nat Fyfe seems to be suboptimal because he insisted on getting up rather than lying still so he could be appropriately assessed. Not blaming Fyfe as I suspect he was not coherent at the time. Not blaming the Dockers staff as jumping on a head injured player is probably a bad option. Once he refuses to lie down for "best treatment" there is not a lot of data on what the next best option is so I think it was everybody trying to do their best in the circumstances.

Fair enough Tragic that's easier to deal with coming from you than a serial apologist for that twat Lyon.

Just wondering about the bump that hit Fyfe in the head and then the sling that probably did just

as much damaged as the head knock , Should this be looked at or is there nothing to see ?

Actually I've got a recording, a little distorted and kind of hard to actually work out whose talking or what they are saying, but I'm pretty sure its the instruction from Ross to Steven Baker to get the Wiz...

As I said much earlier in this thread, having made the decision (or having let the patient make it?!?) there’s surely a point where Fyfe’s stumbling and bumbling necessitates a review of that decision. Still baffled.

Justdoit - if we are going to apply boxing’s duty of care to the AFL we are really scraping the barrel.

It would be interesting to hear what the medical staff had/have to say. Anyway it looked to me and I wasn't that far away, as if his opponent had him by the head before he hit the ground. It was the weirdest thing I saw all day.

First time I have seen the video. Given other charges shouldn't this qualify for something? www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/2019-04-09/d...n-fyfe-up-to-experts

Had his hand on Fyfe's chest on the way down, but with little force...and Fyfe was out and on the way down anyhow. Nothing here I reckon.
