I know that there are some people here that like to go through every game we lose and isolate certain umpiring decisions we didn't get paid that we should have and decisions that the opposition got that they should have not. Personally I think it's a futile pursuit and find it interesting that those sort of comments don't come when we (rarely) win.

We all know that the best umpires are the ones you don't notice in a game and that you're never going to get a perfect game,

That's not to say I don't get frustrated with bad umpiring decisions, but I wonder if these people watch other games with the same interest and focus. Rarely do you hear commentators say too much controversial about umpires but last night's game was different. The last quarter was marred by some terrible decisions with commentators actually saying that the poor umpiring influenced the game.

It seems that just like the MRP, year in year out, we have some inexplicable decisions that annoy and frustrate all supporters, not just us.

Neeld copped frontal contact that could have seriously hurt him not long after Saad got penalised for holding in a marking contest that was a brush of the arm.

Like the players the umpires are focussing on the wrong things.

I reckon the AFL would be argubly the hardest professional sport in the world to officiate. The rules are subjective, umpires have to run over 10km a game, you’re making calls from 50m away from the play, often through a mass of bodies.

I’m honestly surprised they don’t get more calls wrong.

Actually, CA, I do. Some teams do cop more bad decisions than others, for whatever reason. My focus however is on the fact that consistently biased umpires like Margetts, Dalgliesh, Fisher, and in the past Allen & Rosebury among others have been given more than they should have of Freo games. Especially Margetts & Dalgliesh umpiring Derbies, and Fisher Freo V Saints.

As for the umpires that make bad decisions both ways, everyone complains about them. As for gamechanging decisions, the commentators last week seemed to think the call against Pearce had a big effect on the result.

There's really two issues.
Firstly, the commonly held perception of wide ranging incompetence from semi-professional umpires, adjudicating a professional game.
Secondly, the commonly held perception of deep seated bias from prejudiced, partisan umpires favouring 'their' teams, such as Margetts with WCE and Fisher with St Kilda.
The fault lies with a managing organisation that seems to give fair play and sports governance the lowest priorities.

Wayne Carey carried on like a pork chop in relation to the free kick against Gawn at the centre bounce in the last quarter (as though it was pivotal to the outcome) but it was a free kick all day long.

Bellchambers had his eyes on the ball and Gawn stuck his arm out and hindered Bellchambers’ ability to leap at the footy. Correct decision.

Wasn't it Fisher that was umpiring when we had ( 4 ) frees for the game against Western B. ( 28 )
a couple of years ago ? We won that game by 8 goals and controlled the game all day , how could that have happened ?

Listening to GWS v Richmmond and commentators cannot understand umpiring which is causing frustration by players. They are finding game hard to call and will seek clarification of rules during week. I think umps are finding all the changes frustrating too. God help us tomorrow!
