It's a very small sample size, but Banfield's stats are actually up this year compared to last year, but it feels like he isn't impacting the game the same way. Perhaps that's real, or just that I expected more from him this season. In any event, his demotion to the extended bench suggests the match committee also expects more.

I'm just not sold on Hughes. He goes hard at it, but I just don't think he has the poise required to be a good backman. I'd love to get another look at Duman.

I'm not a big Matera fan but if left in forward pocket for a change and with our talls he might do better especially if he realises it's his last chance! Yes I know in JLT he missed a close one but also got a near impossible one, similar to most forwards these days, eg LeCrae, Riewaldt and others but he must be on last chance with youngsters waiting in the wings

Matera had a great game for Peel last week; laid some tackles, got goals and 17 disposal.
Definitely has talent, was unfit last year, but says he has worked hard on improving his fitness.
Throw him another go: like Cam, could be a good footy player for us with some confidence.

Poor old Hughes is gaining fast in the escaped goat stakes and i can't actually see why judging on his form this year. A different role perhaps but his stats have been better than Pearce and Hamling and quite similar to Ryan and Wilson.

I thought Hughes had a really bad game. Where ever he went they kicked it and his opponent ended up with a kick on goal. But yeah he took a few marks and kicked it and stuff. Maybe he would be better as a defensive in the forward line. He's got some talents and he needs game time. I'd like Duman to play.

Yes I agree. Hughes is a very hard working honest team orientated player but his skills aren't where they need to be. I'm really surprised Duman is not out there so far.

Anyone know how Tom North is getting on?

Probably pi55ed off that he didn't get a run in the JLT when we knew we short on midfielders.

I am anyway.

Why do they persist with Banfield as a forward? He is a belter in the contest and can tag and scrag and get the hard ball out. He is not a slick finisher when around the goals. Get him at the stoppages either as a nullifier or to win the hard ball and quick hands out. It is what got him picked up in the first place.
I believe it is called a “strength-based approach”.
And just play Cerra as a mid...that kid has got something special, it’s called class and skill.
Is anyone bloody listening or what?

I agree, I would like to see Cerra played as a mid. I feel his flexibility counts against him a bit. Brayshaw always gets a go in there because I am not sure if he can play anywhere else.

Hughes survives, and Matera gets a chance to show us he's improved.

Bit unfair on Schultz. Matera better pull his socks up.

Unfortunately Schultz was particularly poor on Sunday . That disgraceful kick in the last qtr when he was shooting for goal was critical. It ended not making the distance and landed in a Gold Coast player who rebounded and I believe scored. Yes they all had bad moments but that was particularly poor because:
1 all he had to do was kick the ball 20m without too much pressure to get a goal but he did not make the distance and went to an opposing player

He is young and he was good against nth Melbourne but it was a bad missed opportunity that I think out us 23 points up.
