Biz, plenty of players run those distances in games. Sometimes it is because they are chasing the game, not controlling it. I think most Freo supporters were pretty surprised the day Cox produced those figures, because to my recollection, he did not dominate the game, and I think a few here theorised most of those K's were logged playing to the "All the forwards run to the backline when they get the footy, now we have it, run to the forward line.

Whether Cox was getting a tonne of the ball when he racked up those GPS numbers or not is irrelevant, the point was his running ability is certainly capable of pushing up the ground. Another pre-season on and that now 20yo kid has the legs and smarts to do a lot of damage, give him a chance.

Yep, Tabs is 25, five years older than Cox and still only kicks about a goal a game. Cox kicked 3 in the pre-season match vs the favourites for the premiership in a dominant display that had him as our best player on the day before injury struck the next week. He earnt himself first crack at the KPF role when fit again.

While this year I probably wouldn't expect much more than what Tabs offers, It's 2/3yrs down the track when we should be contending that I'd like to be seeing some results.

Tabs has now become an awesome player and it's no coincidence that our slide in 2018 coincided with his long-term injury, and, of course, that of Fyfe's injury. What this really speaks to is that we did not have the depth to cover for these losses of personnel in that way that stronger teams have. In fact, that's been a problem with Freo for a long time.

Taberner has taken a while but at 25 he would have a few peak years ahead of him. No one has presented like he has or taken as many marks. He is 199 and can run all day, can kick on his right...he is way ahead of Cox at the minute. That may change, but for now Cox has potential, good hands, is slow and kicking is suspect.

We have plenty of running ability in our team. That is not the problem, getting the footy through the goals is. Despite your selective stats on Cox, he is showing nothing more than Tabs did at the same age. When Tabs kicked 6 goals (I think it was 6) in a game last year, every doubter said it was just a flash in the pan, Cox kicks 4 in a pre season game, and he is the next Gerovich.

Tabs is 198cm and a left footer to be more accurate.

His kicking at goal is good but around the ground it's very up and under and much less accurate. Cox had the opposite problem but has improved dramatically and looked a different player in front of goal towards the end of last season which further improved against the Pies in the JLT game.

The speed thing I don't understand as they look the same to me. The difference is Tabs can often look like a deer in the headlights when under pressure while Cox often moves and thinks through a situation quite well, creating more time and space.

As for Tabs being 'way ahead', in the game they played together against the Pies, Cox kicked 3 goals from 3 marks while Tabs had 2 behinds from 2 marks. They also played the last 4 games together last season where Tabs kicked 4 goals and 4 behinds to Cox 3 and 5 while Cox took 20 marks to Tabs 18. That would suggest a pretty even effort last year with the now 20yo kid surpassing him this year.

Tabs kicked 4 against Essendon last year (his best in 2018) but has never kicked 6 goals in his career. He has 65 goals from 64 games after kicking 2 goals last week to get his career average above 1 goal per game.

Cox kicked 4 against the Crows last year (his best in 2018). He kicked 4 goals from 10 games in his first season (mostly playing as a defender) before kicking 18 goals in 16 games in 2018.
