That is right, Yeti, last week we had players inside 50 most of the game, because the ball was coming back in there too fast for our forwards to follow the Lyon plan of all behind the ball. This week, we saw countless wide angle shots showing a vacant forward line with our forwards racing back across 50 to try and be an option. Surely it wont take Lyon 15 years to realise opposition coaches know this is his game plan, and all they have to do is leave a couple of taller backs back there to outmark Balla's/Walters/Matera/ Schultz.

Yeti, so far this season there is a sample size of two games. It seems premature to completely write off one of those two games in favour of the other.

I will - the North game was great, the Sun's game was crap. The difference in the way we approached the Sun's game (you might ask)? In a nutshell, we played along the flanks, long ball up to a contest along the boundary. Similar to all those other teams that have frustrated us over the past couple of years, the Sun's drew us to bring extra players into the contest on the flanks which opened up extra players for them in the middle.

Nonsense, Morgan. Do you want all of us to pretend the last six seasons didn't happen because 1 game was different?

4 games, yeti. 3 being 12 months ago against Essendon, Gold Coast and Footscray, book-ended by whackings from Port Adelaide and West Caast and bisected by a snotting from Greater Western Sydney .

How you want to interpret our season so far, and the 6 seasons before it, is obviously a matter for you. I just wouldn’t be so eager to rule out all hope for the season after one bad game that followed one good game.

But there’s no point going around the block on this again. I’ll wait to see what happens on Sunday.

I'm with you in principle, Morgan. But its hard to argue losing to GC (comfortably, despite the margin) isn't a reality check for 2019.

Yes, it is a reality check. We still don't have the quality we need all around the ground. And we didn't have enough desperation in the middle (Fyfe excluded). And we weren't very well organised in defence at times.

So there is lots to work on. Individual player development (including better kicking, of course), better structure in defence, greater desperation. But I think that we have good enough players that if they are coached well, we'll be winning more than losing by the end of the season. That is, Roly doesn't have the excuse he had for the last 3 years of not having the cattle he needed.

When we start playing forwards in the forward line, we will not have to keep going up the flanking sides and backwards.

That is the biggest load of cobblers I have heard since Lyon's last press conference, RR. B1R1 nailed it.

We still don't have the quality we need. I'm not sure it's on the ground though.

Shane, I AM sure it is not on the ground that we don't have the quality we need. But then again I am looking through a red mist of "Lyon Hate", apparently.

B1R1, I can't think of a time this season where we didn't have enough numbers forward. Polly is right that too often we were pushed to the wings, and that's where we came unstuck. The question is what caused that? It could be that GC17 were more likely to push their forward entries into the pockets, which means it's a tougher kick coming out. It could be our players weren't running to space in the middle. It could be that our players weren't brave enough to spot a target in the middle. It could be that GC17 had their loose players in the middle, so we kicked away from them down the flanks. It could be that Lyon told the team to change its winning tactics from the previous week to something less likely to be efficient.

Smart teams figure that stuff out during the game. I don't think we're a smart team yet. I'm happy to admit that could be down to poor coaching, but when I look at the lack of continutiy of our team, it's asking a lot of players who haven't played much together to collectively figure that out on the fly.

The effort just wasn’t there. I wish Lyon would focus more on effort
