If you want to call a player out, our Mikey is a diver. He did it all game and got a Schuey-like goal from it in the last quarter. Or do people think he's clever?

Everyone knows who the stagers are, eg:
i) Schuey
ii) Jack Darling
iii) Any player with the surname Selwood
iv) Marc Murphy
v) Lindsay Thomas.

But you can add Michael Walters to that list.

I've probably told this one before:

Back in the good old days I went to one of our AGMs at South Freo's hospitality room. Chris Scott had just been given a job as an Ass Coach. Just before the mini party pies came out I went outside to have a smoke and have a look at the colts training on the oval. Chris came out and sauntered over to the fence to have a look at the colts too, said 'G'day' and we had a chat about moving to town, etc.

I couldn't help myself, I had to bring up the Nick Riewolt shoulder separation bump thing - I was laughing and carrying on, Chis was smiling but didn't interrupt me. Then he said 'that was my brother, I just supported him'. We both laughed, I said that I've got a brother like that and added 'I reckon your brother would probably say the same thing if he was here'. Chris stopped laughing and said seriously 'Brad did it, and he would never tell a bluey, never'. Chris said it was something everyone brought up with him. We laughed.

Two things I got from that:
* Chris is a bloody nice bloke.
* Brad is a bad-arse, albeit an honest one.

Naahh, Davo, Walters is not a diver or a stager. When he gets hit he gets hit. He does not stay down, he does not whinge or put on a show, he just goes to the next contest. He gets hit high, hard and often and it is because he puts his body on the line for the footy. He gets pushed in the back and hit high because opponents know that 4 out of 5 times they will get away with it.

This is poor by Scott, what did Wilson have to gain by remaining doubled over and grimacing long after the incident occurred. It was a cheap shot and deserved a week. The article seemed to indicate that players may be penalised more harshly in upcoming weeks. I am predicting that one of our players will make contact to an opposition players midriff with medium impact in the very near future.
I agree with you Davo that Walters does stage for frees but I can’t agree with you about the free he got late last week, this time he straight lined the footy and deserved the push in the back that followed. The unfortunate thing for him now is that he doesn’t get as many as he should because umpires assume that he is playing for it.

Although Wilson wasn't injured he appeared 'winded'. Imagine in a close game, eg gut punch Sheed and just leave him winded for a few seconds, just enough time to lose that game, how I wish!

The impact at the time may not cause injury but can be high as it floors a player for a few minutes, which could be pivotal in a match.

Never mind, Mr Scott’s clever in his interpretation until it affects his team when his head will explode in the coaches box.

He’s not that clever, but does a good job of the alternative trying to be clever.

Walters reputation as a stager is proof of how well a media campaign works. The umpires (and a lot of footy supporters ) have been brainwashed by a campaign launched by CH7 commentators to take the pressure off the serial stagers and divers at the eagles 5 years or so ago.

It has been so successful that even those claiming to be Freo fans have bought in.

Both R Alexander and Sliding doors feel Cunnington got off lightly for all Scotts whining. just winded or not they were going to be harsher on it. I don't agree with send off however unless it's Gaff!

I love watching Son Son but he absolutely ducks his head into danger constantly and flicks it back when there's contact. He isn't rewarded as much as other duckers but he does do it for whatever reason and doesn't need to most of the time.
