He plays more like the half forward flank goalkickers of the 60's/70's in the WAFL, the likes of Laurie Richards, Ron Wilson, Tierney, who kicked more goals in that role than the Austin Robertson "lead from the square" Full Forward. Being allowed to play that role gave him the freedom, and also brought Tabs into focus in his role.

Something else I noticed last night was Pearce having the confidence to turn on a thruppenny bit again down back, made him much more effective, as he had time to cleanly dispose of the footy after losing his opponent.

The joke about his new image is actually grounded in truth especially when it includes his higher level of fitness.
What is missing is the probability that he has also had a breakthrough with dealing with anxiety.. I have two adult children who suffer from anxiety and who are both talented in their own fuelled, but when anxiety hits they struggle with a crowded head and physical loss of energy and do not want to get out of bed. It's great to see that Cam has clearly got it all together now and hope he can keep both his mental and physical health in good shape.

He didn't start the game looking like he'd overcome anything. He wasn't even supposed to be out there. He didn't play in the pre-season games supposedly because of poor form, or attitude if some people are to be believed.

He grew in confidence as the game went on because the ball started coming his way, there was some space to move into and he kicked some early goals. I don't think he looked fitter or better or anything as fancy as that. He was just able to get the footy. He could do that because there was a lot of it about for a change.

He's been stuck down on his own, locked in a pocket growing frustrated and unsure of himself. Yesterday he was able to do what he does and he loved it.

What I like about Cam is he seems to have football smarts. He makes good decisions and executes well. If he gets a bit of confidence he is going to be hard to stop. Can all 4 talls fit in the same team?

I was speaking with a woman whose son had recently been appointed as a scout for an eastern state's footy team. She said to me that of all the talent her boy a reported on he was the most impressed with Cam McCarthy this summer - so much so (in fact) that he recommended mum to put some hard earned on the kid to take out the Coleman and Doig double. Big praise from someone who knows enough about talent to earn a wage from it.

Hence my persistent goading the club for a Cam membership card. Yesterday's goal haul and field performance has been in the wind for sometime. The Cammer is a top shelf footy player with resilience that has a bloody good sense for goal and an excellent boot. Sooner or later they had to play him, I'm just glad it was round 1 in front of me yesterday.

Yesterday Cam was able to lead at players, and lead hard. Think back to last year when he had to make his leads running into the 50. Doing that provides one of two results. Either the kick is too long, and the ball runs away to the boundary or behind line, or it sits up in the air with Cam waiting under it while 4 defenders lick their lips then smash him. He must've thought he was back playing U18's with the space and kicking he got dealt yesterday, and he took advantage of it.

Just makes you wonder how anyone ever thought the game plan of the previous 5 yrs or so, was ever going to be successful, when the simple concept of putting a few blokes in front of the ball worked so well - and looked so good - yesterday... ??!!

Really dont think its because of a few extra recruits...its just a complete change of mindset.

Hopefully it stays that way.! And it'll become a much easier game for blokes like Cam & Tabs - and everyone.

Really impressed with Tabs' presence yesterday, as well...took some good grabs...and yep, ...dropped a few, but had good presence I thought...
