Good afternoon ladies and gents,
I thought I'd take the opportunity to properly introduce myself - you can call me Whitey. I'm an avid reader of Dockerland (to the point where I read these forums upwards of ten times a day lol), and have been a Fremantle supporter since their inception.
I haven't posted that often since joining, but today's game has me at breaking point, to the degree that I felt I had to voice my concerns. There just appears to be such a discrepancy in the field kicking and marking skills, along with the "polish", between the Dockers of present and so many of the other teams within the competition. I know this is not a subject that hasn't been put under the spotlight on countless occasions within these boards, but it just appears to be so apparent, that I am at a loss as to why there hasn't been an intense focus on this attribute of our playing group.
Endeavour is of course necessary, but competence in effecting 'AFL level' kicks and hand-passes under what could at times only be deemed "moderate" pressure, should be a given. I did, until recently, believe Ross Lyon had the tactical nouse to perhaps steer what is now an extremely talented playing group out of mediocrity, and back into finals contention. I now believe it will not happen, and the way forward is a through the appointment of a new head coach, who will integrate a skills-based approach, centred around a traditional attacking game plan. Our players should be positioned according to their natural talents and strengths, and not made to fit an outdated game plan.
