It seems to me that the usual suspects are the only ones desperately digging for something to excuse the lack of progress being made by the team.

It can hardly come as a surprise that we are stricken with soft tissue injuries and we've failed to address that. Initially, Freo Oval was too hard and caused all the soft tissue injuries. Then we moved and the soft tissue injuries followed us to Cockburn.

We have had skills issues for almost all of Roly's time at the club and we still struggle to hit a target 5 meters away with a handball. Kids at school do better. So do our opponents most days. Nothing has improved on the skills facet.

We couldn't kick goals because we didn't have forwards. We still can't kick goals but now we have forwards. They just get played behind the ball for most of the game.

Our mids still can't kick to a leading forward, mainly because we don't have any forwards leading and most of our mids couldn't hit the side of a barn with a kick anyway.

There is nothing new here, including the fact that these issues are not being addressed.

The usual suspects here are the ones who will accept anything without thought and then snipe at those who find continued failure to be unacceptable

Forwards and backs will be competitive in 2019 but it’s all won or lost in the middle.
We dropped off badly in the second half getting beaten in the middle of the ground, but also seem very fatigued. That happened last year in many games when we were competitive for a while but the load of effort was left up to Mundy and Neale to try to keep us in games. With our only big mids now being Mundy and Fyfe if either or both of those are missing we'll struggle, and Conca will need to step up. I think that’s why Roly is exploring other options ie seeing how Hogan would fare in the middle, when fit I’d also try to get Logue in there if possible.

If we don’t have any luck avoiding injuries this year, particularly to our more experinced guys we’ll struggle again.

Time for Belly to have a serious chat with our fitness and medical guys about what seems to be an epidemic of leg injuries.

This big bodied mid stuff is leading to our problems, if we played small fast mids, we would have a more open running style by necessity, a style which would be sustainable. It would also mean we would have to practise sharpening our skills. This would lead to the type of footy people would pay to watch. Yeti's point about mids struggling to hit forward targets because there are no targets is the biggest reason why we fade in games. Everyone is chasing the footy, which works in Little League games on small grounds. Maybe Lyon and the Little League coach should swap jobs. At least most Little League coaches believe that skills practise is a priority.

The first six games is Ross's gauge of his worth continuing. I would say four wins out of six keep the Dockerlanders from his door.
How he survived 2016 when we had 10 game losing streak to start the year...10 games...that's half a season without a win.
OK we had several great years before that, but the results the several past years have showed no light on a club going forward.

What worries me is RL's resistance to send his favorites back to Peel if their out of form. He continues to play them until they totally self destruct and have mental scars, re Pearce, Sheridan etc. Pearce was so distressed he refused a send off which shows the depth of despair he got to.
Someone mentioned on another post that Cerra played in every position...WHY
Smacks of trying to have a jack of all trades master of none. Haven't seen Stephenson, Riolli, Betts et el play half back. They just focus on becoming elite fwds that only need 15 mins to turn a game on its head.
As an assistant fwd coach at Freo it would be hard organising a fwd game plan when the head coach keeps taking your players away from you.
Unfortunately this guy is causing us all to have mental breakdowns and we only have to watch.

A bloke that played over 250 AFL games, with all the obvious mental strength that implies, is suddenly too scared to play a farewell game because of comments by supporters on social media? Seriously?

The only bloke who has run with that story is the same bloke who happily informed us that 'his honour was intact' while avoiding responsibility for forcing a junior female staff member out of her job.

There just might be a few doubts as to the reliability of that source, don't you think?

But hey, keep accepting everything even when it's clearly wrong to do so

Pearce only copped it from the 2 bob experts, and his not playing a farewell game had nothing to do with the fans, it was a statement against those who stabbed him in the back. I judged Pearce by what happened on the field, and every time he got the footy, players led to him.
