Reading the Sunday times this morning I was distracted from the phantom comic when Mrs Quasi told me that the president of the AFL Fans Association stated he didn't want the time of the grand final moved as this was what fans wanted

Now I've been a footy fan for close to 50 years and a dockers member for 25. This was the first time I had heard of the existence of the AFLFA.

My main question is how did the president become "king of the Britons". According their website he is a Sydney supporter living in Melbourne who practices in corporate law, but this doesn't explain his legitimacy to speak on my behalf.

Did he pull a footy out of a stone to get to be King or did some watery tart rise up out of the Yarra or Sydney Harbour and give him a magical footy making him King of the Britons.

The reason this is important is because he is claiming to speak on behalf of fans of which I am one but I can't discern his legitimacy to do so.

For the record I don't care what time the GF is played as the only thing it will affect is my sobriety.

There was a survey that showed the vast majority of AFL supporters did not want any change to the grand final.

Kim Jong Gill acknowledged this result but also claimed that he could ignore that result and make it better. Goyder has said he wants a twilight grand final.

With the AFL currently giving two fingers up to the supporters, I'm actually happy somebody has come out to support the paying fans instead of the corporates who just want a better drinking time

Who did they survey?

I didn't see a survey.

I always question when someone says I'm of president of this or that how they came to become it, who voted for them, what is their constitutional legitimacy to speak on the behalf of fans.

I like a 1230 start but I don't see how this bloke knows that.

The started it a few years back. You can join for free and vote, I assume on the president.

On the AFL site yesterday they did a survey, and 60% wanted an arvo start and 40% wanted it later.

I don’t think they are trying to stick it to the fans, I think the broadcasters want it and they reckon when the Grand Final moves the fans will either warm to it and those percentages will reverse, or they won’t care and it’s a non-issue.

I'm pretty sure that you would be the only person to say that when 60% get ignored that it would be a non issue.

Gill has come out for a couple of years now wanting a twilight grand final. Goyder has publicly stated he wants a twilight grand final. That's not the broadcasters, that's the AFL. The broadcasters might want it but realistically people will watch it, afternoon or night time, so I don't see much of an argument for a better audience

This is an AFL initiative where Gill has stated he would ignore the stated wishes of the majority because he thinks it's better.

So yeah, they are definitely sticking it to the fans
