I always thought Cam played his best when he had the freedom with 2 other talls at GWS creating chaos with the defenders and Cam was able to get on his bike and off the chain. We have the opportunity to do this. I'd have thought we could afford Cox in the back line, Tabs on the Wing and Lobb and Hoges and Cam in the forward line. I also recon he offers more than Matera. So maybe Cam is injured, not quite ripe yet? He may have a few confidence issues he needs to sort out. But you'd have to have thought if not injured he be in a head of Matera or Ballas in this game just to be given a run.
Instead he is being wheeled out in the Magoos to play the West Coast leftovers

I know I'll get shot down for this, but I'm no fan of Cam.
He needs to do a whole lot more than he's done, and I would have expected that he would have approched his 'new begiining' at freo with a great deal more fervour and gusto than he has.

Maybe I've got my old Tab's record out and giving it a re-run, but, I thing the club is right to say "Cam - if you want a spot, come and get it. Earn it!"

I do hope he takes on the challenge...and his potential is finally realised.

Quite simply, he needs to dominate WAFL footy and win his spot on the Freo list. It'll be the best outcome for Freo, and for Cam.

Very good point! No fan of his either, and he's got to 'put up ' as well. Would surely be down to his last moments of 'opportunity'.
Absolutely no arguement there from me!
Think in his case, though, we have limited small forward options available at the moment via them being injured or via Ballas being prone to injury. So we got to try fashion Matera into the player we want /need.
Personally, I'd prefer to see a young bloke thrown in there - even if was a bit premature developmentally -wise....or...maybe not their natural position.
Or, just throw Bailey Banfield in as a makeshift small forward. He's been down there before.
At least he'd givebit a red hot go...

Seems Ross thinks he hasn't earns a spot.

Personally I think he is a small forward trapped in a 194cm body.

If you play a 6 man forward line, which we don't. I would have 3 bigs hogan, lobb and Cox 2 smalls Walters and a rotating mid and cam ac as your inbetweener.

Matera is McCarthy Mk II, he’s being given plenty of opportunity to prove himself until the opportunity well runs dry.

Lots of competition this year for a position and those who really want a game will stand out.

McCarthy is where Darling was a few years back, apparent potential.

Give him a crack at that role now we have 3 big forwards, he could be a Gunston/Bruest type. Anything would be better than Matera. Although he is taller than Medhurst, he shows similar attributes, and could do some damage, I think.
