Speed is about how quick you are with the footy, and Walters has that. If it was all about 100 meter times, the Stawell Gift runners would all be in AFL sides.

Here’s the thing Biz, is the game plan (read instructions ) from the coaches to bomb it long every time or is it the players’ lack of composure and skills that’s the problem? I was similarly frustrated yesterday by forward entries and the inability to kick to our players accurately or at least to their advantage! My patience is wearing thin.

I think the pre season games are far from a good indication of where we are at. Last season we lost by 10 points to Adelaide in our first pre season game, yet we beat them when we played them in the season proper. We flogged West Coast in pre season game 2 and many Dockerland contributors were all excited and talking up our chances of significant improvement whilst suggesting that West Coast were wooden spoon contenders. And look what happened in the season proper, they flogged us twice in the home and away games and the rest is history.

That in itself should tell you all you need to know about the pre season games, they mean nothing in the way of predicting form, game plan or final position on the AFL ladder. The fun starts on March 24, up until then just chill and hope for no more injuries.

Here's the thing, Maynefan, isf it is the players lack of composure and skill, it is still down to the coaches, they selected the players and they have had a fair whack of time to teach them composure under pressure, and to hone their skills. The coaches appear to have done neither.

I agree with the full sleeve tatts, you notice those blokes without them more than those with them.

Hey, how about Fyfe takes this footy tatt thing to a whole new level - shows up round one with a full face phoney ta moko - or Mundy?

'Lacked polish' but the numbers weren't bad ' Fremantle won the clearances 41 to 38, contested possessions 168 to 163 and the inside 50s 60 to 46. ' Next game against another GF side. If you learn more from a loss than a win - a strong performance next week even if a loss can be very useful. And they and everyone else at the club now know they have some work to do. Roly wasn't shy on the lack of skills either. Next game could also uncover a couple of likely players.

No mention of Colyer, I didn’t see the game, his stats don’t look great, did he do anything that makes us think he was a good recruit?

The skill level shows up poor because of overuse of the ball by handball in a small area trying to keep possession and the opposition pounces.
That is only placing the receiver of the ball to be under pressure and no time to make a good decision or a perfect disposal.
Hawthorn was the first team of short kicks and mark, which gave them time and play the game their way and their game plan.

Alex Pearce next captain. Rosco is sticking to his believed tried and trusted game plan from 2010.

To be honest Maynefan, at that point it doesn't really matter if it's the game plan, it's the coaches responsibility to have players disposing into the forwardline the correct way. Whether the plan was to get it in long and fast to a contest and let our talls do the work, or to lower the eyes and hit a target on a lead (which they didn't do). Either RL left the forwardline to their own devices and didn't coach them on where and how to move as well as not coaching the players on what to do when they get the ball and have to deliver it forward from midfield or he did coach them to do that and it proved a horrible tactic.

There was no change in the game plan as we kept performing the same broken routine of going long to a big pack we were always at best a 40% chance of winning given we were outnumbered and it wasn't to our advantage. At no point did RL ask them to do anything different and if he did, they didn't listen or care what he said.

It's silly to write off preseason games as being worth nothing, they are a good indicator of the season ahead. The result is not the focus but you gather a lot about the systems and players season ahead and ours was not promising.

As for Colyer, he was rubbish for most of the game. He struggled to get in the play and when RL tried to throw him on the ball he coughed the ball up repeatedly and made poor choices. He was a fringe player at Essendon and I wouldn't expect much from him here. He averaged 13 touches last year and in his best season in the past 8 years, averaged 16 touches. I wouldn't be picking him unless we had a lot of injuries. We should have a mountain of kids with more potential who get a gig first.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.
