Neale does very well with what he has to work with. To be a truly damaging midfielder as well as an accumulator you usually need some extra athletic gifts like size or pace. Brisbane are paying him like he’s a match-winner, but he’s the type of player who keeps things ticking over to give the match-winners a chance to win the match. I think we’ll miss him a lot more than most realise for a year or two until guys like Brayshaw can fully step into his role. Then I think we’ll be thankful we’re not paying Neale a million bucks a year.
Fyfe is a match winner, and I reckon he acts like it. Which makes a bit of sense. It’s asking a lot to ask someone to be humble when they really are the best at something, but it’s what Australians often look for in a leader, for whatever reason.
Also Hypen, I don’t think it’s a mystery we didn’t draft well when we were winning games. I think the AFL would say it’s the system working.
