To be clear would it constitute poor decision making of a club if they were to employ anybody with a history that involved the mistreatment of a woman.

Do you think Montagna is a brilliant football mind that will give us an advantage over another club, or that he did nothing wrong that should preclude him from being given a job at a radio station football club, or that it's not for us to judge people rather just employ them based on their ability to complete the task assigned to them? I don't know your opinions on that.

All I know is that Fremantle gave him a job and you are unhappy that I and other aren't happy about that. Fair enough if that's all it is but you don't need to carry on about unrelated matters to score points. It's not university debate club.

Take that as an instruction from the moderator of this site to stop your attempted line of conversation. Not a part of the debate.

DBTS,

Do you mean the current coach, who certainly has that history.

Oh and conflating legal processes with moral processes is an argument many have tried before but only when they are trying to make a case where one doesn't actually exist.

Nobody has said Montagna had been found guilty. People have said he acted inappropriately. You don't need a criminal conviction to act in an unbecoming manner. That innocent until proven guilty is a convention applied in a criminal situation. It can't be applied here.

Milne is a self admitted sex offender. You get that tag when you plead guilty to a sex crime. Montagna wasn't charged with anything but by his own admission, he was there. By his own admission he knew what was occurring and did nothing. By his own admission, he went to court to defend the sex offender. He has also not, to my knowledge, come out at time to amend the position he took at the time, so all of these people trying to justify his appointment by saying he surely feels guilty now are simply making up things to try to justify a poor decision by the club.

If you want to hand control of your moral compass to an organisation that seemingly lacks one, that is up to you. I do not and will not ever share that position. Nor will I accept ridiculously thin justifications for that.

I suppose I took the particular tone in this thread after reading your posts 5 & 10.
In answer to your question. No I don’t think the club should appoint Montagna to this role or considered Hird. I hold this view mainly to avoid the controversy associated with the appointment.
In response to whether he has a brilliant footy mind I have no idea. I would think that he spent plenty of time playing the game so has a reasonable idea on the tactical side of the game. Maybe he is brilliant enough to warrant selection ahead of others, I doubt it as I have mentioned in previous posts.
Do I think he was right or wrong. Personally I would find it difficult believe I would find myself in this situation and I wouldn’t like to explain to my mother how this happened. He had nothing to answer in front of the law, and how long these things should be used to judge somebody is another question.

Been reading this post and pondering it for a couple of days.
As a father of two developing young men in their early teens who I am trying to guide into adult life, this repeated behaviour from our club and the AFL football Management in general is depressing. It created conflicts in the way I think about the club and the senior management, the way I view the mentoring by the club of the young men (who my boys look up too), by the people who appear to not consider the implications of their decision making or their value propositions. Sadly. I was hoping Peter Bell was going to add some spine to our club, as he has a young family, and my interactions with him and his young girls gave me the impression we would see some changes in the FFC leadership and culture. Sadly, it seems he has not had this effect yet. We don't need anymore of the St Kilda Culture at our club, but this latest appointment smacks of RL having more control of our club hierarchy and culture than I realised. The sooner we are rid of this disease the better, it really is going to take a honest clean out, starting right at the very top and a complete reset of the values the organisation is willing to stand for. Alas I can not see that happening in the short term. This latest appointment does not surprise me, it makes me sad and somewhat disillusioned. It feels like we are sinking to the levels of the mob up the road and I never thought we would give them a run for their money like we are now.

B1R1, I posted very early on this thread that I don't like where this is taking us, down the same road as Saint Kilda. I agree with you wholeheartedly.

And yes, as much as some on this site don't like it, there is a common denominator.

If he'd kicked that goal in 2010 we may well have.

Its not hypocrisy at all. Nothing inconsistent with Fremantle's behaviour. That's the problem.

Well, some people are certainly fine with the club's behavior.

Although I can't comprehend how any decent person could be.
