It appears that group thought is that Lobb is ahead of Tabs in our starting 22. The stats for the two players make for interesting reading and might question that assumption.

Clearly stats aren't everything, e.g. Lobb may have played more time in the ruck and he has also been part of a more successful team. That said, Tabs seems to stack up pretty well and it could be argued that he may even have Lobb covered?

Lobb shapes as a pretty handy forward/ruck, and I would have been more excited about getting him if there wasn't so much overlap with Tabs. Unfortunately for Tabs he was pretty lousy as a back-up ruckman, meaning Lobb's flexibility would probably put him ahead if it became a head-to-head selection decision, though I think Tabs probably shades Lobb purely as a forward.

What wasn't obvious to me before I looked it up is how much bigger Lobb is than Tabs. He's got a good 8cm on him (which might explain the better rucking).

Speaking of the rucking role, Darcy likely to be our No. 1 for at least the first 4 rounds. Sandi nursing old man’s calf problems not quite to the extent of HB. So I can absolutely see that both Tabs and Lobb would give young Darcy a helping hand. Having all of Hogan, Lobb and Tabs in the forward line is going to be fun to watch. All we’ve got to do is get the pill to them, pretty much like the Slime does to Darling and Kennedy, ie just bomb it long.

Taberner can't ruck very well because he's not a ruckman. He's just the next tallest bloke who wasn't really holding down a spot elsewhere.

I wasn't a big fan of Lobb and put up what I thought was his not that impressive stats last year. A lot were very happy to get him and I can see his value as a back up ruckman/forward but purely used as a forward or a ruckman I don't think he's that good. Hope he didn't cost us too much.

I think Tabs turnovers and inconsistency in the past have been a result of a lack of confidence but I reckon his much more consistent contested marking performances in his limited games in the past two years are a sign that (finally) this has changed. For me, he has plenty of upside as a mobile forward but he's no ruckman.

Lobb played with other tall forwards option. Tabs was pretty much it as talls went. So I'd argue you cant really compare just from those stats.

Lobb would be my first choice as a forward who can ruck....... Tabs misses out for that reason alone. ..... it means that we can leave Hogan up forward with the resting ruckman rather than isolating the key foward.... you know it makes sense!
