The Oakland Raiders were known as the bad boys of the NFL and coach/owner Al Davis had a recruiting philosophy of targeting psychos, bad asses and nutjobs and a playing philosophy of
"Just win, baby."
Their reputation for ********** was such that, back in the day, when John Worsfold was trying to come to grips with the snowy avalanche at West Coast, he allegedly got hold of a Raiders guernsey and held it up in front of the Weavils at a team meeting, shouting, "Is this what you want to become?"
The story then goes that he ended up chasing the players around the room, whacking them with the jumper, presumably with "Yakety Sax" playing in the background.
When I contemplate our dream half-forward line of Bennell, Hogan, McCarthy - a veritable powderkeg, the very embodiment of high risk, high reward - I kind of hear "Just win, baby."
