I'm still confused. If we put HB in the Forward line under Rolys game plan, doesn't that mean the poor bastard has to run more than anyone else, like up to our back 50 then back down to the forward 50 wash and rinse? Maybe we should play him in the back line and give his calf a real rest??

After he kicks the first couple of goals in his first game as a dangerous forward, if the opposition want to run off and leave him alone down in the 50, let them. Even 1 on 1 he will kick plenty of goals. Players like Ballas and Mayne have a lot to answer for, creating the ridiculous idea that forwards are there to tackle, rather than take marks and kick goals.

Fast break out of the back line with HB playing 1 on 1 in an empty forward line. I’d like to see that game plan. The opposition would be either very worried or double teaming leaving one of our other forwards alone.

Don't tell RM your preferred game plan is pushing all the forwards into the midfield and leaving only a 185cm midfielder in the forward line to kick to.

Take the calves out of the equation and station him in the midfield, on his knees.

He can extract the ball from the bottom of the packs and feed it to the outside runners all day long, without any possibility of tearing a calf.

He'd be an exception mark for his size.

Well, I did not say put Harley down there by himself, I said not many coaches would allow a defender to leave him down there unmarked. I would still like to see Hogan, Lobb, and maybe McCarthy inside or at the 50 as well.

Dreams are free, I guess.

I don't know about Raglan Matt but I think when most people say leave someone in the forward line, they don't mean stand them in the goal square all day. They mean don't force them to constantly push to be in front of the ball.

Yeah, I dunno.

Having Ballantyne as our sole player in the forward 50 opposed to a couple of blokes who outmark him most of the time had worked so well for us in the past.

Oh wait.....no it hasn't.

But i'm sure if we persist long enough, it will work for us because persistence and effort are the only ways to success, right?

We haven't had a couple old school forward tall targets leading within the 50m since.....did we have one in 2013?, No.
Modra has been the only full time forward headliner.

Can't call them forward targets if they are chasing the ball in there, Mac, and that seems to have been the game plan for the last 5 or so years. #Hoping for change this year

Everyone forward 60 metres from goal is a target. The trouble is finding a target. Leads and dummy leads, getting the spoiling defenders out of the way would be nice to see

Harley's tweaked his calf again this morning, jogging laps.
