I've got a bush shack about an hour and a half north east of Perth - over the years I've spent a fair amount of time out there. There's not a heck of a lot of wildlife around, but those that are there tend to stick around and saunter through every now and then - a few kangas and a couple of wallaby mobs, echidnas, goannas and a few snakes, heaps of birds and one emu.
The emu has been around since he was half grown (about 12 years ago), every now and then he pokes up or just wanders through checking out what I'm doing. Sometimes I see his head sticking out of the brush just watching me - he'll sit there for hours following me, about 20 metres away. It struck me that emus are pretty inquisitive animals, not all that fussed about anything, a bit shy and about aggressive as a baby duck. He's grown up now, by emu standards a pretty big buck (I guess) - saw him a couple of months ago out on my northern firebreak.
Earlier this week I came across an online story about Hurnia crunching a 'bush chook' with his Hilux. Admitedly, I don't find anything that those fools get up to as funny - but those knobs cracking up over the smashed bullbar/front end of that idiot's ute really got under my skin:

Yeah, not funny at all - I take it the bush chook is just laying in some ditch somewhere.
