Well Mac....I'm not too sure that we didnt get a bit of an "AFL Helping Hand" with this years draft, actually....??
If you look at the "horse trading" for draft picks during trade fortnight( ie the swaps withPort Adelaide") ,and, the eventual deal to get Hogan over the line when all seemed lost, I'm not entirely convinced that all that was belted out in the final 24 hrs - or the final 3 days , or -indeed - the entire 2 week trade period.!
A lot of that sort of stuff simply has to be discussed between clubs throughout the year ( ie a conversation something ike : " Look, we'd be interested in giving up ths......could you see anyway you could give us something in return??? ).
And ,at the same time, - I reckon - the AFL get involved as well, whether it be a bit of" Eric Idle", or a flat out decree! (Ie something like : " Look here the rest of you ... The Dockers are a basket case if they dont get a power forward, and that is not good for our national competition. We'd like you all to think creatively, and make a few deals happen. Melbourne...that means YOU!! Get some deals / trades done that help out The Dockers and we'll find put someway of helping you out...")
In my view , there is no other way that our 2018 trade period 'goes down'....given our historical incompentency in those sorts of things.
(...Either that, or I've had too much of Jezza's fairy floss again.......!)
