After firing up the old Fergie tractor - a vehicle for contemplation - and doing a couple of rounds of the paddock I would say that comparing, for example, Luke McPharlap and Alex Pearce I find Pearce taller and stronger and possibly more skilled than Luke but Luke was more canny.
Of course, the real comparison is between Luke in 2004 and Alex in 2018 when they were both about 4 years/40 games into their career. In that, I'd give Pearce an definite edge. Hopefully he will be around as long and in 2024 I can make the apples-for-apples comparison.
