AS per the article on the afl site here, we have Jeremy Sharp, Luke Jackson, Jack Buller and Trent Rivers all training at the club.

If you're heading down to training, take a look at Jackson and Sharp in particular, both look incredibly talented and like early picks in next years draft. Jackson looks like an outstanding athlete as a former basketballer who can dominate games from the ruck. Here's an article on the kid.

Sharp was probably my favourite under age player at the U18 champs this year and earned AA selection (refer to article here). He'll be a fantastic pick up as well as an elite midfielder.

Both Jackson and Sharp are from mighty Easts production line of champions so hopefully one or both end up at Freo next year.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Bizkit, given those two gun footballers are from one of the port WAFL clubs I'd imagine that guarantees them a spot on Geelong's or West Coast's list.

While the Academy picks are a step in the right direction, Freo shouldn't rest until some form of recruiting zones are brought back. Watching bright, young WA kids sent over to the Gold Coast is one of the more dispiriting aspects of the AFL system.

Of course, it might help us be better at football too.

Whatever happened to the Marlion Pickett hype? Can he still be picked up? Thought he was worth a chance, particularly based on some of the other mature age rookies over the years. At least prospective clubs will know he can kick it long, take a speccy and run like the clappers.

We don't have any picks left though Suker. Think there is about four or five clubs that do and that's how Richmond are looking at getting Stack.
Must be disappointing for guys like him and Bolton that no matter how well they play that by 26 clubs think they're too old.

I'm not someone who is overly enthused by a lot of the mature age talent available unless they are around that 19-21 age bracket. You should be able to develop kids better than anyone passed over by half a dozen or more drafts and only looking at those guys if you are in premiership contention anyway.

We only have the 2 selections next year anyway to focus on top kids after having traded away our third and fourth round picks.

Quite agree with that Bizkit.

We've had a bit of success with drafting mature players but not, in my view, enough to prefer mature players over drafting youngsters. There is usually a reason these players get passed over in successive drafts.

I also think that you get more in the long run by developing youngsters anyway

Yeah, I didn't actually think we should pick Pickett, but thought some other club might...gold coast or the like.

The trick is in identifying which have been passed over for the wrong reasons. Like some young players in the draft, Fyfe, Walters, Neale and Darcy quickly come to mind. There are probably 3 or 4 over 23 players each year who would go on to a successful career, and quite a few more who start off with a hiss and a roar, but fizzle out as oppositions work out their weaknesses. (Which is why they were passed over.)

Jeremy Sharp's grandfather is no other than the Old Easts legend Ken Holt 202 games 1956 to to 1965. Doubtful if grandfathers qualify for any dispensation for AFL but true Freo pedigree here. His mum bleeds purple but dad is a die hard weagle

Speaking of father/sons: I just wish we had Byron and Peter's little tackers training with us too - Kysaiah Pickett and Trent Burgoyne are training with Port atm.

Edit - Kysaiah is Byron's nephew - still...
