TOPIC: Griffin Logue

Will this bloke crack a few games and cement a spot in 2019?

Is he over his injury concerns and back 100%?

No idea, but my son checked him out at training and said he was a “beast”. Seems to me what we get from him, Hogan and Harley will determine whether we’re on a serious trajectory or a long, slow continuation of the “process”.

I hope so. He is a big, fast unit. Please don't be another bunged up first round pick.

It depends if he's looked after himself in the preseason ...

I'm still seeing this kid's long term future as a midfielder in the mould of Pav after his initial stint in defence. He was used in this role at Swans before being drafted and acquitted himself quite well.

He is well and truly over his foot concerns, he definitely trained hard in the off season, shaved time off his 2km time trial, weighs in at close 100kg and will be an asset for us this year. This guy will only get better.

I’d love to see him play an Ibbo type role in the backline, with a bit more licence (and ability) to take the game on, at least to start.

I think the same Morgan, but was wary of saying so, given his lack of experience as a footy player.

Based on Logue’s games to date, it appears that he has the right build but he did seem awkward at times and wasn’t a natural reader of the game. Perhaps this was a case of youth and inexperience, or it could be an example of why you still need to have an instinct for the game if you want to be an A grader. Good luck to him as, one way or the other, he will be a big part of our story over the next couple of years.

Loved the way Taylin Duman backed himself in this year. He and Logue were born five days apart and I reckon they'll be twin guns for us over the next 10 years.

He doesn't read the game well, but is tremendously athletic. For now I'd use him in defence to nullify (and possibly hurt) an opposition tall. And he can get better at other aspects of his game while he does it.

Not sure where this fallacy has crept in to our supporters' minds that logue doesnt read the game well. He spent his time as under ager as an intercept marking defender. That role requires a high level of game sense, knowing when to role off your man and when to stay on him. He wouldn't have excelled in that role without a good ability to read the game. Probably a bit of confirmation bias. Every time he makes an error people will say its because he's not a natural footballer. Another youngster makes an error and it's just because they're young.

Once he gets a good 10-20 games of afl footy into him and he is given the confidence to back his judgement he will excel in that role at afl level.

Well he has already played 13 AFL games but only averaging 9 disposals and 4 marks per game. He wasn't actually doing that at much at Peel when dropped back either, so I'm in the camp of he's got a way to go. I'm also keen to see him used more in the midfield. Our backline is quite stable so would be batlling for a position there.
Pearce, Hamling, Ryan, Wilson, Duman, Cox, Nyhuis, Logue. Will be interesting to see who gets the final six spots.

Randolph, you left out Lobb, Hogan, Conca and Sturt from that list of defenders. Smarten up your game mate.
