Quick question here, we currently have 4 picks. If we have to use 2 to match someone selecting Jason Carter does that then reduce us to 3 picks and a reduced playing list due to inability to replace delisted/retired players? Can we then top up this deficiency via pre season or rookie drafts? Or can we pick up another delisted free agent from somewhere?

We would still have 4 picks, our 4th would just be pushed to our next available pick plus any carryover points from what was spent on matching the bid.


So if we theoretically used 43 (378pts) and 65 (90pts) to match a bid at 40 (429pts), you'd use pick 43 plus the excess 51pts from pick 65 which resultingly drops the worth of pick 65 lower in the order. We'd still have the pick but it'd be lower in the draft order or if it were gone, our next live pick would come into use (pick 80 or whatever it was).

Thanks, Bizkit, with all this pick swapping and the father/sons, next gen academy players it's getting hard to keep up. Our first pick's now going to be 17 after Father/sons are factored in and we have to keep picks to enable guys like Carter to be picked up. Looks likely we'll get a shot at Ian Hill but the scribes are pushing guys like Butters, Duursma, McHenry and Sturt. If Jordan Clark's not available I think Hill is the way to go but I'd hate to have to choose between the two. If you pick one the other's going to turn out to be a 200 game star of the comp.

The so called journos are pushing average wannabes our way because they want Hill to drop into the Slime's lap. After Tim Kelly all the interstate clubs will look the other way and Hill will go to Nissy and Co in the 20s.

Just looking at draft prospects' tapes on AFL site and, I know we seem to have a lot of tall forwards/backs on our list but if we get a crack at Dillon O'Reilly I hope we pick him up. Takes a good, strong grab and not scared to bang goals in from outside 45 metre mark. The thing that always annoys me is how opposition teams kick multiple goals from outside 50 while we seem obsessed with only taking shots from 30-40 metres out. Consequently we match teams for inside 50's but our attacks fall away because of poor disposal into the 50 metre arc. This has been a problem even when we were in the finals and I'd like to see some of our guys have a bit of confidence in their long range goalkicking. Even Jye Bolton from Claremont is a pretty reliable shot from outside 50.

Getting back to the topic, Sam Sturt is the Jaidyn Stephenson of this draft but I would take Ian Hill. All fairly academic as true to form the Dockers will prefer a run of the mill midfielder.
