I'm disappointed Jesse didn't take the #29. Sure, they are big shoes to fill, and Jesse wants to carve out his own name, but I reckon the fans would have liked to have seen a big #29 out there slotting goals.

Instead some 17 year old taken in the third round will have it, and he'll spend most of his time running around at Peel.

Seeing someone kicking goals in the 29 jumper wouldn't interest me.

I like the idea of it going to pick 81. No one expects that pick to be Pavlich so it's all honour and no pressure. And if they don't work out then the number has been laundered.

Other clubs have no issue with it. Pavs not dead..
Jack Dyers number 17 at Richmond was handed to Daniel Rioli..after Chris Newman and Kane Johnson.
KBs number 29 has been worn by Ty Vickery.
At Carlton - Kernahans Number 4 has been worn by Aaron Hamill, Luke Livingston, Bryce Gibbs & now Lochie O'Brien - all different type of players.
Ted Whittens number 3 has been worn by Chris Grant, Andrejs Everitt and now Mitch Wallis..
so I have no issue if number 29 is handed to our first or second round pick (Jordan Clark or Bobby Hill hopefully) and have a run through the middle...

Maybe it’s a little fanciful, but I always liked the idea of certain players handing over their jumper number to a new recruit. To me it’s one way to build a tangible connection between the past and the present. “Here’s the jumper kid. Wearing this on your back means I’m going to be keeping a close eye on you. If you ever need to reach out, you know how to find me, and if I don’t think you’re doing the number justice you’ll definitely hear from me.”

Maybe that sort of thing happens anyway regardless of numbers. Or maybe it wouldn’t happen in any event – young kids maybe don’t want some grumpy guy in their 30s telling them to lift their work rate.

Hogan is going to have a tonne of pressure and Pav comparisons regardless of whether he wears the number. Make him wear the 29 and cultivate the club's history. All those big bustling forwards who carry Freo should wear it in future.
