Its a hole on our list. We need a small forward. We might be pretty confident of addressing it at the draft though.

Our forward pressure shapes to be poor next season. Tabs and CamMac offer very little forward pressure, Walters is puts himself about but isn’t elite in that part of the game, Ballas is whole-hearted but not as quick as he used to be, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen Matera tackle, and while I’ll reserve judgement on Hogan and Lobb I can’t see them helping in that respect.

So, I get the argument for picking Neade up, but I just don’t think he is good enough in the other parts of the game to justify selection. He doesn’t seem to crumb the ball very well for a bloke his size, and his disposal is poor. I think there are probably other players going around who could give you forward pressure and perhaps a little more on the skills side.

It will be interesting to see which smalls will line up in our forward line next season. I’d love to see Walters in the forward line full-time, but our midfield could use some help so we’ll probably see him there a lot. Ballas and Matera were fringe selections all last season. I think Banfield will play as a defensive forward at times again, and Colyer’s pace could be handy. Maybe one of the younger blokes will carve out some time.

But Neade is a known quantity who is at best a fringe player. I’d rather give that list spot to a young bloke with more upside.

Maybe the forwards will have to kick goals on their first entry instead of buggering about waiting for an opportunity to show their defensive skills.

Switkowski's forward pressure skills seemed pretty good in the two games he played. Worth persevering.

The only non-freo player I want to see running the ball out of the forward line is the umpire returning it to the centre.

When Mayne , Walters and Ballas were putting the pressure on as forw2ards, we had players in the forward line. It is a bit hard to put pressure on in the forward line when all your forwards are back of the wing. I agree with Shane, teach them to kick goals and the pressure will take care of itself.

I think that in a lot of games we lost it was the lack of pressure in the air in the forward line that was non-existent, particularly when Taberner was out of the team. Opposition defenders were talking far too many uncontested marks. I doubt this will happen with Lobb and Hogan to add to the forward line. We should be taking a few more marks and the ball will hit the ground a lot more, making it a little less frustrating for the likes of Walters and Ballantyne.

I'm going to miss watching Ballantyne contesting the mark against the two tallest defenders.

When training starts, in between tackling and chasing defenders it would be nice to see him try his hand at crumbing and kicking goals.

I we ever see Ballantyne going for a mark above his head again, then he should be dragged.

Just maybe, just maybe a little bit of kick it to the freo guy in the forward line who marks it and who kicks it through the big sticks means the term Forward pressure refers to the defenders running around trying to work out who the ball is going to because the " Forwards" have "Leading patterns" going on all over the place creating chaos to all plans of the opposition coaches.

We have Giro, Bennell, Switta, Colyer, Matera, Ballas, Walters, Cerra, Banfield and probably Ian Hill all vying for two spots in the forward line. I wouldnt get Jake Neade. If I have to watch him miss every shot on goal for the next two years Im seriously going to hand in my membership.
Our next forward has to have elite kicking skills or just forget it.

Yeah nah. Your 2 points "he can play" and "we need him". Disagree. He's a below average afl player and we don't need him. The small forward we pick up with pick 65 in the draft would offer more than neade.
People on Dockerland seem to have rose tinted glasses when it comes to players from other clubs.
