Right now it’s good for us to be out of the limelight/under the radar, and we don’t need the exposure for financial reasons (if we do well on field attendances and membership will grow whether we’re playing prime spots or not) so the cloak of invisibility fixture the AFL has thrown over us won’t do us any harm.
The clubs I feel sorry for are the little Melbourne ones; they’ve got no captive audience like we have, their historical supporter base is inadequate and shrinking, and the AFL keeps pumping up the already bloated tyres of their competitors at the top end of town.
