We currently have 38 on the primary list and 2 on rookie list (Giro and Nyhuis)
Although squad size can be up to 44, only a maximum of 40 is allowed on the primary list
As it stands, we have 4 worthwhile picks: 14, 31, 43 and 65 (next is 81)
With only 2 primary spots available, we would only be able to use 14 and 31, then we would have to draft the remaining 2 from the rookie draft, meaning we would be selecting talent overlooked in the main draft, ie our 3rd and 4th picks would be effectively around 100 or so.
Instead we temporarily delist 2 contracted players, Apeness and Hughes, who we don't think will be picked up by other clubs, and redraft them onto the rookie list.
This now gives us 4 primary spots to fill, using our 4 best picks 14, 31, 43 and 65.
If I'm right, we wont be using our next pick, currently 81 to draft a 5th player - though we may need to combine picks (say 65 and 81) to gain points to match a bid on one of our academy players (not sure how this all works).
The reason we delist contracted players is so the players are guaranteed to be relisted, otherwise we would be obligated to payout their contract.
Also, there seems to be a gentleman's agreement that clubs stay away from drafting opposition "delisted, contracted players".
