TOPIC: Sutcliffe and Sheridan

"The club delisted players on the back of the people calling for their heads"..............if that was true(which it obviously isn't) how come Dawson stayed on our list for so long?

No. Just no.

You made the nonsense claim that those two players were sacked on the back of the people calling for their heads

Thats complete crap.

Your attempts to constantly talk up Roly by rewriting history is now verging on the insane

Sutty was a very late draft pick. I disagree about the weights room comment, I thought he had put on a bit of size.
Unfairly maligned on here imo and most definitely deserves a game somewhere else. I was predicting a club like GC would pick him up. All the best to him if swans give him a gig. Play him as a half forward

Sutcliffe did put some bulk on this season and went OK after coming back from injury.Sheridan had his best season in terms of impact and would probably go well at GWS.

We are better off with Sutcliffe and Sheridan anywhere but at Freo.

Delisted free agents can just be signed up on a contract - no picks or trades or negotiations with other clubs required.

I hope they all get picked up, see how they go.

No complaints from me if they get picked up by someone else. Good luck to them.

I didn't feel so benevolent though when it was De Boer and Barlow as i thought they still had something to offer.

I would have kept Sheridan, for depth.

And usually I don't find Jezza too unreasonable - but the idea that Ross listens to Dockerland and makes his decisions accordingly is risible.

I really did appreciate Tom and Cam's effort and team committment, but both were not suited to half back when every top side was playing speedy, big kicking line breakers. They both got knocked off the contest too easily and could not chase anyone down...ever. The notion that they added depth or experience is very puzzling to me. If this was Tom's best year...how the hell did he get to 80 odd games? I don't get it.

Both Sutcliffe and Sheridan probably rank somewhere between 15 - 25 in the pecking order. Not world beaters and never will be.

There is a bit of a youth obsession on this board, but for me I think we would have got more out of Sheridan over the next 5-10 years than either Giro or Crowden. But people like to attach themselves more to potential than ability. For me, I would have held on to him. I'd even have held on to Sheridan ahead of say Ballantyne who got another year (and yes, I know they don't play the same position).

Sutcliffe I think ranked slightly below that and probably was a worthy delisting.

Sheridan would have been given another year if not for unfortunate timing.

He was uncontracted whilst players like crowden are contracted and to delist a drafted player after year 1 of their first 2 year contract would be extremely poor practice. Especially to keep an uncontracted player like sheridan.

Sheridan, grey and sutcliffe were all delisted out of necessity to make list space for the upcoming draft. Without delisting those 3 we would have had zero spare list spots.

Your comparison with giro is pointless. He is a rookie listed player and hence does not count on the main list. It's not as simple as a choice between giro and sheridan as sheridan is on the main list.

I assume rogerrocks is for Roger Hayden, and then you go and use 'risible' in a post #killingit

I like Sutcliffe because he played some great games on Darling in Derbies when we used to win them, but then again I loved Ibbo too ... as the poor blokes assigned to basically run sprints up and down the wings to stop ball coming out of attack and then fang back to get their assigned defenders (when our pressure zones actually worked) while we all got grumpy at them for not manning-up.

And always thought Tommy was used poorly by Ross but we did have pretty solid midfield at the time and his frame was a bit slight for our game plan - 10kgs heavier or 10cms taller or both and he would have been much more useful.

I am indeed named after tgti, and I'm sure he's used risible himself.
But it does go to show just how tough a gig AFL football is for players who are used in all sorts of ways that don't make sense to mere mortals in the stands. I always thought Barlow was particularly easy - put him on the ball and he wins it and gets it out to someone fast who can kick...
