I was kind of hoping they would get a game or two at Optus after 40,000 rocked up this year. Great day out for the family without having to remortgage the house.

Lost so much money on it last year, they can’t afford the same loss again. That’s why most of the games are in obscure locations around the country.

That game attracted a crowd because it was a new stadium. You'd have more staff working than spectators this season.

I haven't seen the 2018 report, what did it cost us to host the game at Optus? Great exposure and marketing imho would offset the cost. Entry could be free with your membership.

I'm just plucking a number out of thin air but say you need 30,000 people at a game to break even and you only get 20,000 but it doesn't matter because you gave the tickets away for free, then....hold on a second..carry the 2....you just blew a lot of money.

It reminds me of a time before football got commercialised and it was just players playing because they wanted to play, and having to work and fit football in around their day job. Skill levels about the same as well.

Family likes it, the atmosphere is more relaxed than the regular season, so theres not a lot not to like really.

Women membership and participation is on the rise so long term the AFL will benefit from promoting it, I'd much rather they spent money on AFLW than AFLX or the Sun's/Lions.

Growth of female football at grassroots level, even coming from a low base, is MASSIVE - doubling every year. Any sport, any movement of any sort, would love those numbers, we should do everything we can to support it.

In Jeb's defence, I reckon mostly all who watch under 10s, auskick etc have a vested interest. And auskick or any junior footy is not on tv or promoted like the womens' game. Two completely different scenarios. One a semi-professional product and the other simply junior footy.
