I’d say he’s a medium size forward with no defensive side to his game. Injury prone but does know how to kick a goal I think with so many talls in our forward line we don’t need someone like Menzel. He’ll only be pushing McCarthy out

Defensive pressure by goal-kicking forwards is really important these days. Hate to say it, but the defensive game of the Weagles, from their talls to their smaller forwards helped them win a flag. According to today's paper, Menzel was the worst pressure player in the competition of all general forwards and the worst tackler of the mid-sized forwards in the past two years. Hard to see how Freo would consider picking him up.

Well, it must be true if it was in todays paper.
Defensive stats are over rated.
I'm sick of defence - that's all I've seen for the last 5 years.
I want to see some goals.
I want to see players take their opponent on, and say, "Oh well, I'll get him next time" if they get beaten
And furthermore, I don't care what the Weagles are good at. They're a bunch of turds.

I'm actually surprised at the quality of players being delisted this year, if that's worth anything. Maybe lists or salary caps aren't big enough? Or clubs pay too much for premiums

I thought I read somewhere that Taberner was the worst defensive pressure forward in the comp. I wouldn’t be surprised if he just pipped Menzel to that title.

I'm not sure that Pav himself was too hot in the tackling department. Anyway, according to Menzel's manager he didn't get too many tackles because of where he was instructed to position himself.

In the right team, I think Menzel would be awesome. If we had someone like him in our 2013 team, we would have been a much more potent outfit. But that forward line already had manic pressure from blokes like Mayne, Ballas and de Boer.

The most interesting thing about adding Menzel to our current team would be taking bets on who out of Tabs, Cox and Menzel would be least likely to stick a tackle during a game.

Menzel will be picked up by a Victorian club is my guess - St Kilda, Western Bulldogs, Carlton, North Melbourne . He probably has been told by other Geelong players not to come to Freo - it's the pits.

Yoss, I feel your pain about wanting goals. But if you have no defensive pressure, you end up being like Freo vs. Geelong. That didn't turn out too well. And, this topic is forcing me to say it, the Weagles were good this year because of their forward pressure; even their talls were good. You can't win without it; ask Richmond.

I want goals as much as the next guy and I think we'll get them next season. But you're still going nowhere if that ball comes out easily from the forward line.

Now, I'm going back to slamming my head against the wall for praising the bloody Weagles.
