The character traits you need the AFL to succeed on field are to work hard on the training track and get the most out of your ability and to do the right thing by your teammates.

Whether you help old ladies across the street or are a teetotaller for 365 days of the year or visit the children’s hospital don’t help win games of footy.

It is obviously not good for a club to be distracted by players getting arrested for breaking the law or feuding between players because they’ve been disrespectful. But unless that’s happening a club doesn’t need them all to behave like the pope to be successful.

They kick a bag of leather around and just need to work hard, train hard and fit into a team environment.

Character in the Larrikin traits of past and present footballers is why I still am interested in AFL 2019. Its disappearing and when it disappears so will I. Who wants to watch overpaid precious "athletes" in a competition that is all for Victorians well being. Bring back State of Origin and then we will see how much true character and less self importance this game has become but it will never happen. I would love to Dockers and West Coast players play together, the West Coast supporters would have to go therapy to understand the concept. Cheer together?
