I am trying to get my head around these two tweets 5 min apart by Langdon during the trade.
Is the "Character is far more important than Talent' rings 57% true, 43% false and from the freo players listed. (or the other way round?)
West Coast have never picked dud players going by only one on list for them and he hasn't got talent because he's been in trouble. Kerr, Cousins and several more who was of fine character when they started playing for that mob.
They had a underbelly team ten years ago which had a bit of talent and a flag.

Character is far more important than talent, nothing has changed at Fremantle. Sylvia, Anthony, Bennell, McCarthy, Yarran, Simpson, Matera all unfortunately to this point have failed and watch their misery continue. They only have themselves to blame.

Character is far more important than talent, the Eagles took a risk with Liam Ryan they have done ok on the field. They are now paying the price for his off field issues.

I am still trying work out that Character is good or Talent is good or both together are bad or both together are good.
From where I have viewed the games Matera has the same stocky build as Belly, Haseby, Neale, Balla's, Suban, Farmer. So it's clear who has character and who has talent.

For a second I thought that Ed Langdon was going to be in big trouble...
But objectively, talent is more important than character. You can have the best character in the world, and be plying your trade in the 3rds because you aren't strong, fast or skillful.
Take Michael Jordan. As a baseball player he made it to the minor leagues. As a basketballer he was amazing. Same character, different talent for different sports.

The thing about questioning someone’s character is that not only is it very nebulous it is at the same time very personal and prejudicial. It’s a potent attack for a lazy person. It’s a Karl Langdon special.

Like, what do Sylvia and Simpson have in common? Sylvia is a creepy, rubbish bloke and Simpson was a young guy from Yalgoo who couldn’t make the transition to the AFL. Their supposed ‘character’ issues are completely different. And did I miss something about Jack Anthony? I thought he just wasn't very good at playing football. As for CamMac, he got horribly homesick and wanted to come back to Perth to be nearer family. He hasn't hit his strides for Freo yet Does this display poor character, or am I missing something?

I agree with Langdon and in general have found him pretty objective in his comments about footy. Lack of success has bred a siege mentality in Fremantle fans. Titus O’Reily reckons we have an inferiority complex and I think he is probably right (you try following us Titus).
That said, character extends to coaches, administration and staff as well. Until there is cultural change at Fremantle, and I am hopeful Peter Bell will start to turn this around, we will never win a thing. You can criticise west coast all you like but they kill us all day long in this area. When I look back on our most successful era the thing that stands out is the number of players that were not really world beaters but had good character and leadership. I admit though that this can be hard to define or recognise from a distance.

When 'people on the radio' use the word 'character' it doesn't mean the same as it's other uses.

If you make a list of ex-footballers of poor character and you don't include Ben Cousins then what you're saying is that character means that they are white, have well respected parents, went to an expensive school, have excellent communication skills and will snort as much cocaine as they can get their character filled hands on.
