It's true that they were both played out of position for a couple of seasons, and that's probably because neither were really good enough in their respective playing positions to force themselves into the team, ahead of the first choice player. But they were good enough to be the utility type, fill-in-last-name-on-the-teamsheet blokes that could play a role, as needed. Sadly, given the increasing quality of the squad, and being out of contract, means they're also first out of the door when the list needs trimming. AFL is a tough way to earn a living. There are no guarantees of a long, well rewarded career. Even so, it's hard not to feel for three fine young blokes in the situation they now find themselves.
