Sorry but if it were me (and assuming Geelong would have accepted Freo offer) I would have accepted the offer from my non preferred employer, Fremantle. Signed a two or three year contract, brought my family back to where their support is all around and if, after my contract expired, I still wanted out and the Eagles stil wanted me, said 'thanks Freo' but I am off to the boss down the road' . How many of us here are working in jobs that we'd rather not but do due to our own responsibilities and commitments? No sympathy from me if Kelly has chosen to stay at Geelong simply because he doesn't want to work at Freo. Yes, I agree that support should be there if Kelly and his partner need it but any argument needs to be balanced, doesn't it?

Im still trying to work out exactly what Geelong was supposed to do. Other than grant the odd sick day or compassionate leave, my employers over decades have never once offered me support if I had some personal problem looking after my kids at home or any other problem for that matter. Having said that I never told them either. I just wonder if Geelong even knew??

For those still not sure. It should go like this.

Woman: Please help me I am not coping.
Club: Ok
People: I hope things get better for her...now what's happening in the football news.

Even better:

Woman: I'm not coping and I need some help.
Club: Ok, we've organised for these post-natal support people to visit you - a nurse will pop in later in the week to assess the problems and advise us specifically how we can help out. Don't worry, we'll sort this - we've got enormous resources at our disposal and it's not unusual for young families to get help.
Woman: Are you sure? I haven't had a good night's sleep in months and I'm finding it difficult to focus at the moment.
Club: Hey, not a problem at all - we've been sorting out this sociopathic captain we've had for years now. Hey, let me tell you how we got our Fremantle fixture moved from the MCG to Kardinia Park back in 2013 - that was just a phone call. That was great, we stuffed everyone up on that one.

I didn't read the Geelong Advertiser version (I'm not comfortable giving money to Rupert Murdoch), but is that where she said she 'wasn't coping'? That's not the words she used in The West story. She said Geelong were "unaware of the kind of support that we should have been offered.”

Shane, perhaps you are comfortable taking a woman's carefully chosen words and then paraphrasing them to say what you think she really means - that she's not coping - but that's not how I read the article. I just read it as a gap between expectation and reality.

To me that interpretation makes more sense with Kelly's comments that: ‘I will stay at Geelong or go to West Coast’. But I don’t want to go to a club down the bottom of the ladder because Geelong is a good club.” Kelly's comments just doesn't seem to fit with a wife that 'isn't coping' and a family that has been hung out to dry by Geelong. It's why some of us are confused as to why she's lashing out at the club for not doing more, when her husband, well, didn't do more.

We and Geelong heard loud and clear he wanted to return to Perth from media reports as far back as the 9th of June and both Cook and Scott were asked about Kelly wanting to get back to Perth....
"There are no guarantees about keeping the midfielder, he notes the Cats are in a strong bargaining position,"Scott said.
"I don't think he's homesick, but if he is and he's playing this way, I hope he stays homesick for a while," Scott said.
"But he and his partner Caitlin have three young children, all under three."
"But also he is contracted to the Cats until the end of next season."
"The club's in a pretty strong position when you have a contracted player," Scott said.
"I'm very confident that he wants to play with Geelong, but there are circumstances we're considerate of."
Of course, Kelly could still leave at the end of this season.
Scott was asked if he could guarantee that Kelly would be with Geelong next season.
"Guarantee - that's a strong assertion," Scott said.
"It's my expectation that he will be."Scott said.
