I think the Eagles are to blame here, they would've gotten in the ear of Kelly/manager and promised they will get him.

As soon as the Wegirls retained Gaff ,they would have known it was gonna be tough to get the deal done, also because they didn't need to replace Gaff anymore they didn't need Kelly as badly as they thought.

So I blame both the wegirls and the manager, I feel a little sorry for Kelly's wife, I'm sure if she thought this could of happened she would have told Tim to go to the Dockers.

There is this usual arrogant view from the 'other team' that they will get Kelly in 2019. Not so sure. If Kelly has a similar year Geelong will offer him money that WCE wont come near. I suspect Ablett and Taylor are playing their final year in 2019 releasing heaps of money. Also the Dockers will have money to offer with Sandi and Mundy almost certainly playing their final season and probably draft picks as well. This will test Kelly's desire to come home only to WC particularly if WC go backwards in 2019.
Sad to say but I think the supposed over riding 'go home' factor for Kelly was as disingenuous as it gets. With WC not budging on their offer should show Kelly that WC think he's not so indispensable to their future success.

I've always thought his carry on with Haslelby's contract negotiations, talk of going to the Eagles, has cost Haslelby in future earnings. He damaged his reputation with Freo supporters. Pav is taking in the big KIA dollars while Haslelby does infomercials for McDonald's weight gain diet plan.
