TOPIC: Neale interview

According to Lachie, leaving Fremantle was probably the toughest decision he made in his life. He has a great relationship with Ross. He has no issues with the playing group and the professionalism of the club.

"I've never been frustrated with the club and I have great relationships with all those guys (including Bennell)," he said. "None of that is true. Every club has its ups and downs and I don't think there's an issue at Freo.

"Fremantle is a really professional environment and the players this year ... those younger guys took a step forward," he said.

"That will continue for them and I wish them nothing but success, except when they play the Lions."

This is obviously a different Fremantle to the one discussed on here on DL. I thought there was only one.

Alternately: Neale's obviously delusional and we're lucky to be done with him.

It just confirms my impression of Neale.

Very professional in outlook and in conduct. No childish burning bridges on the way out. Brisbane will do well with him

I particularly liked his comments about the likelihood of Roly doing a tagging job on him when the teams meet next year. I’m glad he’s identified his flaw. That’s a sure thing young Lachie. Hope he gets a little advice from Robinson.

This interview, if taken at face value, ought to have a few posters eating their words in relation to the alleged team disharmony, falling out with the coach/Fyfe/Bennell/etc., not happy with the clubs’ direction, etc. that some were trotting out as reasons for his departure.

Of course, that would require the ability to honestly reflect on past utterings, acknowledging the inconsistencies of their positions in light of the comments from the individual concerned repudiating such hogwash and having the integrity to correct the record.

Instead, lazy excuses are trotted out along the lines that Neale is somehow still towing a ‘company line’/wants to preserve relationships with a view to a future return/ etc.

Or to put it another way, if LN is the man of honour, integrity and humility that we have known over the past 7 years - either you believe what he says or you believe he’s just talking BS. You can’t have it both ways - though I fully expect some to try to do just that.

That the truth has turned it to be closer to what the pro-club posters believed - that is, a great opportunity to earn more coin than anywhere else, potential Captaincy and for a change in scenery for him and his soon to be bride - is simply too hard for some to accept.

Always been happy for Lachie to do the best for himself that he can, and it looks like the Brisbane deal is the go for him.
It’s not like we hocked the farm for him at pick fifty whatever, he’s given great service in good times and bad, and he’s certainly bought us a farm on his way out.
I wonder, all things considered, if we’ve ever got more value from a player in our history.
I hope the move sets him and his family up for life, and he’ll get a cheer from me when he steps out against us next.

Love Lachie Neale and very smart guy. Along with some genuine feelings from him we also understand some "brand" protection and enhancement going on.

Did Brisbane end up putting up a better deal than Fremantle?

I dont think they did.

Hypen,

I think we matched it but that never gained any traction.

I also think the move may have been planned for a while. There was a story doing the rounds that his GF had sold her business earlier in the year.

I'm happy he didn't spit the dummy in public. He's a class act, in spite of what some people would have you believe

Reportedly LN is on $4M over 4 years. Wow, I’d say 200k more a year than Freo’s offer. Either way, it’s more than Freo’s offer.

“He acknowledged that money was a factor in joining the Lions, but added there were other reasons.”

I’ll take him at face value. Sometimes it’s not one thing. Sometimes it’s $200k a year worth of things.

Still, you never leave a football club if you're happy - being happier somewhere else is hardly an endorsement of where you came from. I think that's called gilding the lily.

Jason, without knowing what actually happened, you are doing what you so glibly accuse others of doing, using the story to suit your view of the club.
