I understand and I may be wrong that Pavlich has said that he believes Taberner to have all the tools necessary to succeed but was lacking in self belief or needed to have more faith in himself. If that is the case then being berated (leaving aside the arguments as to whether that is right or wrong ... I wouldn't like or condone it) would be unlikely to have a positive outcome. Just hope that moving forward he shows what he did until injured last year. He has a great motor and could play well up the ground.

I don’t think too many condone belittling or bullying, but people on this forum have taken one instance supposedly seen at training five years ago by one person 100m from the incident and stripped of context, and run with it for a half decade as an example of why Lyon is a bad coach. And now, seemingly, it has held Tabs back.

Talk about a long bow.

In the past years we’ve heard numerous instances of players enjoying playing for Lyon, and surprisingly no new reports of Lyon doing it again in hundreds of subsequent training sessions.

I think it’s time you let that one instance - if it ever happened - go.

Right....here we go ...I'm gonna defend RoLy here, and for the past 2 or 3 years that has been an uncommon occurance.

I dont agree with the "holier than thou" attitudes expressed on the previous pages.
Tabs - prior to 2018...maybe the last bit of 2017....was a serious "underperformer".
In my humble view, his performances / attitude / approach to the game left a lot to be desired. There is no doubt he would have been on the recieving end of a few bollockings. Whether these were public, or in the changerooms is completely irrelevant.

These are professional footballers, getting paid a lot, and ,yes, there are high expectations.

I fully support RoLy and Roger giving him a bollocking, and you are on now-non-planet Pluto if you think otherwise.

There are many of us on these pages who have played a highish level of sport - dont tell me none of you havent been on the back of a tirade, and dont tell me you did not respond - in either a positive or negative manner - to it.

RoLy is perfectly entitled to pull the strings however he wishes to get a response out of a player. If he chose to 'let him have it' on the track...well...I am sure there was good reason for it, and more subtle approaches had been tried beforehand - to no avail.

Toughen up, Princess, if you dont like it!!

Off course, it never works "One way,all the time". I think, clearly, that coaches like Barrassi & Eade -who flew of the handle "all the time" - probably lost the playing group within a few years. Having said that, they probably also gained some pretty quick success.
Then again, "softly, softly" coaches probably lost their jobs pretty quickly. Maybe Drum and Bolten are some of these types.

The skilled coach would utilise several different techniques to match players person's and individuality. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' way - premierships are the only measure.

The art of coaching is surely to use several techniques to ' try and push player's buttons' to get playing responses 'above and beyond'. Bollicking or berating is just one of them.

I, for one, fully support RoLy on this matter, and think it juvenile & petty if he cops criticism for this incident. I will not 'throw spears' at him for doing this.

However, as for his pre-2019 game plan, ...well.....he deserves all that he gets.....!

Well, that went down well. Certainly not hanging on to that instance. But, it did happen. Not 100 metres away, close enough for every word clearly audible. Not just a bollocking, not at all.
And I only mentioned it because well, it is the title of this thread, and Tab was mentioned, so there it is. No one died. Tab is still around. Definitely not saying it is the norm, but clearly a bad example of coaching psychology.
And, verbal abuse and public/peer humiliation is not worthy of a million dollar coach.

A bollocking /using the big stick, call it what you like, should be the last resort.

Cletus, what I am objecting to is the way Tabs was made scapegoat time and time again leading up to 2018. While players like Sutcliffe, Sheridan, and others could make mistake after mistake without being sent to the "twos", Tabs only had to look up at the coaches box after being dragged to be sent to Peel for another 6 weeks with some excuse about his "parameters" or "KPI's " not being up to scratch.

A bollocking is 1 thing, being treated as the scapegoat for others mistakes is another. If he was the weak sook some are intimating, he would have chucked it in a few years ago and requested a trade. Full credit to the man for coming out and performing as he has last season.

RM, without knowing any details I suspect that the difference was that Sutcliffe et al made mistakes, while Tabs didn't do what he was told. Coaches are rather more forgiving of mistakes.

These guys would’ve been tested and profiled to the nth degree. If Tabs got a bollocking in front of his teammates and the public (twice), then it’s because that’s what he responds to. If it was gonna break him, they wouldn’t do it. This is not the schoolyard. I’d bet Ross could give you personality profiles/types of all his players.

Tabs played 15 games in 2015 including 10 in a row where he failed to average a goal a game. He then played 17 games the following year with 15 in a row and again failed to kick a goal per game. He had a tonne of opportunities and wasn't up to it at the time.

Maybe he is now or maybe Hogan will lift him. I reckon he'll be good in 2019.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I give you that Biz, but considering he took a large percentage of his marks up on the wing, it was always going to be tough to kick a bag.
