Matera has shown nothing over the past few seasons to indicate he will command a spot in our best 30. Move him on. I would rather 5 talls in our forward line than playing him as 1 of 2 small forwards.

Nostalgia seems to be the basic solution to every problem, big or small, these days. I seem to remember that it wasn't always like that, but maybe that's just another case of falling for the rosy remembered past.

If you want your football club to be run for your emotional needs, to rectify your perceived wrongs, and to stick with history, then you want a football club that doesn't compete at the top. Football moves on.

Agree with you on Matera Jason. He played one year. If there was ever a player that is a forward pocket and only a forward pocket it is Matera. He lined up in and around the middle way to many times last year.
It will be interesting to see this year with the addition of a genuinely strong forward line that demands. and is able to offer genuine one on one contests, how he goes as a crumber. The rule changes will also change things dramatically with teams unable to start one back.
I am concerned with his lack of pace and tackling pressure, he reminds me a lot of Josh Green who was just cut by Essendon. I am willing to cut him some slack after only one year, and playing in a disfunctional forward line.
I think sometimes players that are traded in for lower picks come to clubs, and supporters aren’t inspired by the choice to draft them. After this the player can very early be judged quite harshly, a lot harsher than a young player taken at the same spot in the draft. If you have a low opinion of one of these guys it is much easier to be right that they are no good, there is a reason they were cheap.

Problem I see for Matera is that Colyer, Bennell, Switta, Ballas, Walters and Banfield are all in front of him.
