Think this will go done as one of our better days....but without putting a dampner on things....is it a bit of a concern we could trafe much except picks?? We couldnt trade off anything we did not want....

Says a fair bit about our previous list...and current one.

Thats why we have a list conundrum....

Waiting for the last minute Mega deal, Gold Coast offload pick 2 for Tom Sheridan and Cam Sutcliffe. Lightning strikes twice!!

We do have some issues now. So far it looks like this:
Out: MJ, Danyellen, Spur, Neale
In: Conca, Lobb, Hogan, Colyer.

We have to make at least 3 draft selections, so that means 3 to be delisted, we also traded in pick 65 so I think we’ll probably use it, which makes 4 to go, we definitely have too many tall players now but they are all contracted for another year.

65 will be a rookie upgrade, Banfield, Nyhuis or Duman - all worthy.

Picks can still be traded right up to draft night, so depending on how many players we intend to draft, any of the other clubs that need a few extra points might allow us to move up a bit later in the draft. Also depends on how many points will be needed for carter and where he fits in the draft

If your name is sheridan, sutcliffe and grey you would be pretty nervous.

I hope we can keep grey somehow

Good thing going forward then that the two blokes who oversaw our list (mis-) management through the past decade have gone and one is off to (hopefully, mis-) manage Carltanks football dept.

All of Nyhuis, Dumas and Banfield have been offered contracts and will be elevated to the main list.

That means we’ll need to use our last 3 picks on them (i.e. 43, 65 & 81) - leaving us with only 14 & 31 as live picks.

So we’ll need to off-load at least 3 to even do just this.

That leaves no room for more rookies so I guess Giro & Strnadica will be retained there - or cut loose.

Pick 43 & 65 are a complete waste on rookie upgrades so I expect there’ll be some pick trading on draft night to improve our hand next year. Swapping these out for late rookie-upgrade picks to get us back into the 3rd &/or 4th rounds next year would be a great outcome.

But the numbers suggest it’s time up for Sheridan, Sutcliffe & Grey - especially now we’ve picked up Colyer.

With the new 6-6-6 rule, I reckon talls will be making a big comeback. Freo ahead of the game maybe?

I would keep grey just for cultural reasons and I think Sheridan being played away from the backline this year was ok.
Sutcliffe came in at pick 71 and while I don’t remember too many standout games managed under ross to play over a 100.
I think he has done remarkably well considering he came in as winger/forward before being put in defence where he was simply out of his depth and badly exposed.

They’ve just changed the rules in favour of tall ruckman and you want 211 to retire??

Surely we keep picking until our list is full. If we want 2-3 Rookie upgrades they can come at 80+ if we like. So we've got 14, 31, 43, 65, 81 as "live" picks if we want.

Yeah Jason I dont think you've got your rookie upgrading methodology correct, teams dont have to use "live" picks on rookies they just upgrade after they've picked all the player they want. Can go into rounds 6, 7 and 8 but once clubs start passing the late rounds are only a couple picks in length.
