Wait for the can of spray paint for drawing the line after the siren has sounded....Razor will be wetting himself with excitement.

I like 8 out of 9 of the rule/interpretation changes. One by one:

i. Traditional Playing Positions at Centre Bounce: Sure, why not?

ii. Kick-Ins from further out: Who doesn’t want to see Nathan Wilson launch balls to the chest of B Hill in the centre square? I would have liked the 20m semi-circle though.

iii. Marks / Free Kicks within 9m man brought back: Yep. It’s always awkward when the guy marks on the goal post then has to navigate them on the kick out.

iv. Runners and water carriers: Get off the field you clowns.

v. Setting up behind umpires: It’s dirty pool, and human decency should stop this practice, but I guess sometimes to you need to legislate for human decency.

vi. 50-Metre Penalty: Seems strange to give someone an advantage of 50m, only to make them faff about while the offending player sorts his business out.

vii. Around the body after the siren: It also seems weird to allow the execution of a skill all game, only to deprive the players of the opportunity for the most important kick of a game.

viii. Ruck Contests: Not sure who called for this to revert back? I look forward to the rule being flipped once again the first time Freo winds down the clock in the final minutes by Sandi just grabbing the ball and going to ground.

ix. Hands in the back: I think the hands-in-the-back rule was a good addition, but it did penalise a forward who is in prime position when the defender backs into him. Even the slightest hand graze would see the defender get the free kick. I read this change as only applying to this situation, as opposed to players on the lead. Before the hands-in-the-back rule that used to be a nightmare to umpire, so I don’t think that will change.

As flawed as the HIB rule was, it will still be un manageable. Watch Selwood and the flappy WC rubberneckers put extra work into their Ronaldo death throes when someone touches them.

That allowing snaps after the siren is a joke, so is the allowing more than the 10 meters for a kick-in. If you want to administer rugby or basketball or gridiron or netball, get a job with the relevant sport, stop trying to stuff up Aussie Rules Footy. Unlike the businessmen and advertising clowns, the supporters love it the way it has been for a hundred and something years. For chrissakes leave the game alone.

Why didn"t they get rid of the "protected area" that players unintentionally wander into costing a bloody 50!

Hamihill, that rule is very useful. Just ask Taberner.

Agree with Morgans list except for # ii). If you just had a 20 m circle/square to kick out from all that does is lengthen the drop zone of the kick by a rigid formulaic 50m + 20m = 70 m drop zone. By retaining the normal square but having the marking player further back and it not be play on until the player leaves the square, the variety of the kicking option increases greatly.

Also love the runners rule. Could have cost the Pies a flag that guy preventing the tackle on Shuey. They are always in the way and a blight on the game. And as if players cant go 20 minutes without dehydrating when they come off every 6 or 7 minutes. Like those people that take water containers every where they go because they couldnt possibly last 30 minutes without sipping on some Levian. Geesh.

Sorry to see HIB go. It was about the only unequivocal rule in the book.

Pavlich would have kicked 50 goals or more than he did if this hands in back rule was bought in 15 years ago. He was crucified by this one.

Shane's right. As far as I'm concerned, they brought the bloody rule in and hardened its interpretations because Lukey Mac was so good at his job.
