We should go for Wingard - offer Port two of their picks back.

I know the door isn’t completely shut, but you’d have to say the chances of landing Hogan are pretty slim when Freo are leaking Hogan’s own demands.

The best outcome for everyone is for Hogan to play for Freo and it seems like the greed of all three parties involved will stop it from happening. It’s a bummer

I get Melbourne are being ‘greedy’ in their draft picks request and Hogan and his management in asking for a Buddy-like $8M over an 8 year contract. What I’m not sure is what’s Freo being greedy about?

We went in with pick 11 & future second rounder. Yes, that’s ‘unders’, but part and parcel of modern trading back and forth.

When Melb and Hogan’s management want to float back down from the upper atmosphere and start being realistic in their demands - this trade will happen quite quickly.

Pick 5 (assuming LN goes) and 23 is fair value for a potential super star who has a nasty foot injury.

And whilst I am fine with $1M a season - 4-5 years would be a more reasonable initial contract. Especially, if as expected, he’s in the prime of his career when his next (and likely final) contract is negotiated.

It’s a bit rich for a 23 year old to expect a ‘retirement’ contract upon arrival at a new club. He’s good, but he’s not Buddy.

He's better than Tom Boyd (7 years) and precisely what we need. Between Boyd and Buddy?

Time to move on. Hogan is not coming to Freo. The leaked rhetoric is now more about why it didn't happen and saving face. Who was more in the wrong.

Hogan is too much of an injury risk. Based on speculation only, if the foot injury is as bad as being muted, Bell has dodged a bullet here and stood his ground.

I'll be delighted with Lobb by using a mid second round pick only, the rest we should be looking at the draft and the WAFL. A couple of mature bodied 22 to 24 year old players from the WAFL is the right way to go.

Thanks but no thanks Jessie.

Single trades don't happen in isolation. Freo played a game of brinkmanship with GC17 last year over Weller and won. We didn't win because we were the smartest guys or the best negotiators, we won because there was very little risk for Freo in that trade. GC17 had more on the line, so they blinked first.

But the rest of the league noticed that, and the view now seems to be that Freo are unreasonable and no-one wants to be that poor Gold Coast bloke who got wedged on the deal. That hurts Freo in current negotiations, especially where it needs to make multiple deals to get to the result it desires.

The Brisbane deal will get done, because Neale will really help them and Freo would be fools to bring back someone who doesn't want to be there.

The Lobb deal will get done because GWS will likely breach the salary cap (although some other trades might have alleviated this).

The Hogan deal, I just can't see it happening now. Too much has to change in the next day or so, and I think there is too much animosity between the parties.

I think this trade will happen.

Melbourne needs this trade to get the currency for May and they see Hogan as expensive surplus.

When Freo walked away on Friday, the AFL stepped in immediately and criticized Freo for not using the meditation process. You can expect the AFL to ensure that the Neale, Hogan and May trades to go through.

Probably as part of the exciting live telecast tomorrow.

Ok I'm cynical but I think I have every reason to be cynical when it comes to the VFL

Certainly what goes around comes around, you’ve got to front up to the people you fleeced next year.

Nothing wrong with both parties being satisfied with trade outcomes. It’s why it’s called trade.

I think pick 11 and next years 1st rounder which will be inside 10, don’t worry about that is win win.

hypen,

I don't agree that we fleeced GCS. They made a decision to poach a player no matter the cost.

I don't think it was a great decision and they paid for it.

This is different.

Melbourne are pushing Hogan out the door because he's surplus and they want May. If the AFL lean on free to do the trade even when it's perhaps not in our best interest then that's something that would be resisted.

I'm happy to get Hogan but not on an 8 year deal when he has injury issues and he's not committed to the club. In fact, I think he had still yet to request a trade and didn't show a lot of interest if the reports are too be believed.

It's shaping up to be an expensive risk
