Bringing home WA players - Bennell, Hambling, Kirsten, Wilson, Matera and Hill - has not improved the team. Why would you think Conca or even Hogan will make a difference ?

He was no star...but he was tall, quick and never gave in. His decision to always spoil and the fact he couldn't kick...were problematic as the years rolled by. But a team man to the end. Some young players could strive to emulate some of his good points and become better.

Agree Hamling and Wilson have been solid players.
Had a look at McCathy's stats from his last year at GWS 2015 and compared them to this year.
The guy is above in all areas, disposals, tackles, marks but down on goals.
GWS had more options forward which helped him and he didn't have to work so hard.

If you thought that Geelong game was bad then try to imagine the other losses over 50 points...and then subtract Hill, Hamling and Wilson from the team.

It gets ugly real fast when you do that.

If nothing else those are clear success stories as far as list management is concerned. If you're going to criticize, you need to acknowledge the wins at the same time

You can speculate all you like about what might have been. The fact is the team standing hasn’t improved with the recruiting of these players (you can add McCarthy to the list) and doesn’t look like improving. I don’t see that as successful list management.

That isn't the point. The point is they have been along Freo's best players each week. If we didn't have them, you might well have seen a lot more games like the Geelong one.

They are easily best 22 for any team in the league

There is no inconsistency. I said that bringing home WA players hasn’t improved the Dockers team standing and I wouldn’t count on Hogan and Conca making much difference. Certainly I wouldn’t sell the farm to get Hogan although FFC being FFC I’m sure they will.

On the other hand I see Taberner, Cox and McCarthy developing into a very good forward triumvirate. McCarthy hasn’t been much good so far but he will be. Bring in Hogan and you will blunt the development of one of those players at a huge cost in draft picks and salary cap all in the hope of what can be no more than an incremental improvement in the forward line.

Show some faith in the players on the list and go to the draft with two first round picks again.
