TOPIC: Draft Order

So we have only two picks this year ffs, unless we trade Neale. If we're after Hogan that would be our top ten pick. So what then?
Melbourne will want more than that.
We're supposed to have an offer on the table for Conca. Richmond aren't going to be happy with just #77.(sorry-free agent. No cost in picks)
Are we going to give off future picks-AGAIN! Endlessly it seems.
Didn't we have picks in the 100s? Whoo hoo!
We have nobody of interest in trades to other clubs, except Neale.

CA as you know this is the scenario being negotiated, according to Fox Sports, if Neale goes to Brisbane for pick 4.
We trade pick 4 to PA for picks 9 & 10 which we on trade to Melb for Hogan. (Melb use these for May) Obviously we keep pick 5. That gives us Hogan and 5 at least.
If Neale stays then we keep pick 5, in my opinion, and not trade this for Hogan. In my view the first five picks are always sacrosanct in any draft (GC stuffed up!) and used, particularly this year, for young players, as we did for Brayshaw and Cerra.
I hope we get more than just pick 4 for Neale i.e. 4 & 22 if he goes.
Time will tell about all this.

I should add that PA gets pick 10 from NM for Polec. PA want a pick in the top 5 to try and snare a top SA U/18 draft choice.

Neale is worth more than just pick 4. Fremantle should ask for Hipwood and a second round pick at the very least.

Yeah Goodie. There is no way Brissy get out alright here just cause it looks like we might. Neale is worth 2 first rounders if they can’t provide that I’ll be asking for 4 and Starcevich or 4 and 22. Something like that anyway. In saying all that I hope we keep Neale.

Spot on Jezzaargh. Players get traded for picks. Rarely do you see players traded for players. The deal is just too hard to get done.

Of course they won’t give us Hipwood just as we shouldn’t give them Neale. Freo hold all the aces in this trade. If Brisbane want it then they can overpay.

Our current status as a relevant club given what happened up the road, will make clubs like Brissie, Melb etc think before they act. The Weller trade last year was an example how the Suns got bend over. One thing is certain, from all the noise, Neale now becomes a big bargaining chip. If we got pick 2 for Weller, Neale’s departure should see our X’mas stocking filled to the brim. As far as who I’d prefer, Neale or Hogan. I’ll leave you with this question. Who won the Judd/Kennedy trade?

All this talk abut screwing over Brisbane for Neale, but surely Melbourne will do exactly the same to us for Hogan.

Fremantle

Indicative draft picks: 5, 77

Delisted: TBC

Retired: Michael Johnson, Danyle Pearce, Lee Spurr

Unsigned free agents:

Whispers: Is this the year the Dockers finally land the big WA fish they've been craving for so long? Melbourne's Jesse Hogan is believed to be considering a move back home with a year to run on his deal at the Demons. With midfielder Lachie Neale looking increasingly likely to request a shift to Brisbane, the Lions' pick four (that will move to five) will be of interest to get Melbourne's attention for Hogan. The Dockers have met with contracted Giants ruckman Rory Lobb amid interest from West Coast, while they're expected to learn this week if Richmond free agent Reece Conca will join on a three-year deal. If Hogan opts out, expect Victorian clubs to do all they can to get Ed Langdon back across the Nullarbor. Signed until 2019, the former Sandringham Dragon is expected to give the Dockers' best and fairest a shake on Saturday night.

I’ve been wrestling with this thought over the weekend. It’s difficult for me to think there’s 22 premiership players up the road that happened to be at the right place at the right time. So, how many of those premiership players would make way for our current list at Freo, if you had to pick a best 22 in WA. I’m not sure I’m going to like the answer.
