So the only 50m penalty of the GF was when some eagle marks and keeps running so that he is forward of the mark, and the Collingwood player tackles him. What is the Collingwood player supposed to do? Do they have to keep chasing the toast player until they hear the ump yell "play on" and then tackle him?
I just thought that if you took a mark and ran forward the opposition were entitled to stop you.

That's why the Pies let Shuey go from about 30 meters away from the mark. Pretty quick of the umpires to stop Cox when he went to play on away from the mark however.

Seriously, I cant believe these comments!

The eagles were very good on the day and if anything should have been given a few free's in their forward line in the last quarter for high tackles that were completely overlooked.

I give grudging respect to Simpson for literally tagging both Gawn and Grundy out of the contests in both finals which had massive positive effects on the Weagles ability to dominate and win.

Lets be honest here, the Slime should have won this game by 4+ goals and only poor kicking for goals kept the Pies in it. As it was they outscored them by 6 goals from the 20 minute mark of the first quarter and dominated inside 50s (63-48), and they lost the free kick count 13-17.
To me the most important players for them were Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass with 19 marks between them, they constantly blunted the Pies attacking thrusts.

I hate them for winning but applauded them for delivering a high quality match that stuck it to the Vics!!

If after watching 120 minutes of footy the best we can do is find a fifty metre penalty as an excuse to whinge about the Eagles then we’re in a very sad state. Our obsession with that team needs to be saved for two games per season. The rest of the time we should be looking at our own performance. Either this club grows up and becomes one of the big players and a destination team for players wanting success or we stay a bit player that deserves to be located in the backwaters of Cockburn. A 50 metre free kick didn’t win a GF it was years of good decisions on and off the field. I dislike WCE as much as any other team in the comp but until we lift our game and stop concentrating on one team, or one free kick or the performance of umpires we don’t deserve to move forward.

RR I'm on the correct site, I'm just not interested in looking for pearls among the swine.

I look at McGovern and Yeo and think they should have been Dockers if not for Brad Lloyd and his total Victorian focus! If there is one thing the Weagles recruiting team have done well its having their recruiting manager based in WA and understanding what we have here. At Least Belly has been calling WAFL games all year so actually knows what the talent in WA is, If we could snare Colin Young out of Corporate Sports Australia as our recruiting manager on top of Belly coming on board I would then have full confidence in the recruiting team to become a force needed to build a winning team.
